POSITION TITLE: Behaviourist LTO

LOCATION: Tagwi Office

REPORTS TO : Chief Psychologist

SALARY : $54556.00 - $70301.00 commensurate with experience

START DATE: 09/02/2025

FTE: 1.0 (35 hours per week)

End Date: June 26 2026 or return of incumbent whichever is earlier

JOB SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Psychologist and the direction of the associated system Principal the incumbent is to provide direct and indirect support to school staff students and parents. The Behaviourist supports the identification and management of behaviours which interfere with personal academic and social effectiveness of students in the classroom and the larger school environment. The incumbent liaises and/or assists in the referral process for other agencies.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education & Experience:

Completion of a three (3) year Child and Youth Worker or Behavioural Science Technology Diploma from a recognized Community College.

A minimum of three (3) years related work experience is required.

Current Behaviour Management System certification and previous experience in Behaviour intervention is required.

Behaviour Management Systems trainer status in good standing would be considered an asset. The incumbent will be provided the requisite BMS trainer training to deliver training to staff.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

  • Ability to work both independently with minimal supervision as well as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Ability to take the initiative and exercise good judgement when making decisions.
  • Good problem-solving skills with the ability to think analytically.
  • Effective communication skills both verbally and written.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a strong client and quality focus.
  • Demonstrated skills working with students with behavioural social-emotional needs and self-regulation needs.
  • Ability to develop organize and facilitate workshops/training sessions for various groups.
  • Ability to respect the confidentiality of information.
  • Proficient in the use of MS applications and applicable technology and software used by the Board.

Ability to travel to sites within the UCDSB region during the workday is a requirement of the position.

Duties and Responsibilities: (Any or all of the following)

Professional Services

  • Conducts behavioural analysis and programming for specific students under the direction of the system Principal and under the professional supervision of the Chief Psychologist

  • Works cooperatively with school staff towards the goal of establishing independence of the individual student

  • Provides documentation and written reports as required

  • Provides consultation and support for school-based teams in the implementation and delivery of school-based interventions

  • Supports the identification and referral to special education and/or alternative placements

Training and Development of Staff and Students

  • Develops pro-social skills programming for students when required (e.g. self-regulation and social emotional skills) and continuously reviews the implementation of recommended strategies

  • Develops organizes and facilitates professional learning as required

  • In collaboration with other BMS trainers within the organization provides Behaviour Management Systems training to staff

  • Attends and participates in professional development opportunities and re-certification courses as required for the position (e.g. BMS trainer)

  • Performs other duties as required

Working Conditions:

Travel during the workday is a requirement of this position. Due to the challenging environment potential exposure of staff to physical and/or verbal aggression may be difficult to anticipate or avoid even with due care and caution.
