At the heart of the New South Wales (NSW) planning system the Planning Group takes centre stage. Driven by the NSW Governments unwavering commitment to tackle the critical housing issue we provide essential support and strategic guidance. The Planning Land Use Strategy Housing and Infrastructure (PLUSHI) team are the driving force behind the Departments strategic planning policy rezoning and infrastructure projects all aimed at making New South Wales a better place to live.

The role

We are looking for a high performer to join the population insights team within the Planning Evidence Centre. The team produces official NSW population and household projections. The Analyst (population) conducts data analysis to support and inform the development of the projections and to meet the Departments other demographic information needs. They also assist with the preparation of advice for the Secretary Minister and the public. The role actively contributes to a high-performance team environment provides excellent customer service and enables continual service improvement practices.

About You

Our Analyst (Population) appreciates the key demographic issues affecting NSW and Australia.

Youll have experience in the application of relevant approaches and techniques for population data analysis forecasting and data visualisation along with a passion for problem solving and working with others to solve challenges. You can apply critical thinking and analysis to data to demonstrate findings of data beyond simple presenting of numbers. Your high level written and oral communication skills are used to identify and communicate key findings of analysis either verbally or with concise and accurate written reports.

Key knowledge and experience

  • Expertise in application of relevant approaches and techniques for research data analysis forecasting and statistics and in use of statistical packages.

Essential requirements

  • Tertiary qualification in one or more of the following areas: planning statistics mathematics demography social science geography or other relevant discipline or equivalent relevant experience with a specialisation in one of these areas
