Job Scope:
The Global Controls Engineer will support global and facility level manufacturing engineering teams in the design construction implementation and troubleshooting of control systems on industrial production equipment. The responsibilities of the position will include the layout build and testing of electrical pneumatic and hydraulic systems for new equipment and altering the control systems of existing equipment for improvement purposes. This position requires ownership of all steps of the process from design to physical construction of small-scale equipment.
Responsibilities:
  • Support manufacturing teams (global and facility levels) in the design construction implementation and troubleshooting of control systems.
  • Create complete electrical and PID schematics based on the functional needs of system concepts for R&D and production equipment.
  • Build full electrical panels to applicable codes and company standards.
  • Integrate new components to existing equipment for process improvements. Existing equipment may range from small-scale fixtures to fully automated cells.
  • Create evaluate and correct safety systems to ensure equipment meets industry and company safety standards.
  • Travel to facilities to provide additional support of equipment onsite when needed.
  • Assist in the writing and maintenance of capital equipment functional requirements.
  • Facilitate transfer of best practice knowledge.
  • Create bill of material documentation and spare parts lists for facility maintenance departments and record keeping.
  • Support and ensure compliance with safety quality and environmental systems.
Qualifications:
  • Associate or Bachelors degree Electrical Electrical Technology Electronics or Mechatronics Engineering are desired but strong work experience can also satisfy this qualification.
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience preferred.
  • Electrical panel design and build experience.
    • Utilize ACAD Electrical or similar software.
  • Thorough understanding and practical application of industrial electrical codes.
    • NFPA 79
    • NFPA 70 (NEC)
    • UL508A
    • CE Compliance
  • Proficiency working with both single and multi-phase AC (up to and including 480V) and low voltage DC power.
  • Experience specifying integrating and troubleshooting common industrial equipment electrical components (i.e. motors VFDs sensors switches etc.).
  • Experience installing configuring and programming PLC HMIs communication networks and related components.
    • Allen Bradley familiarity preferred.
    • Writing ladder logic (AB Studio 5000).
    • Basic knowledge of proper PLC programming practices required.
  • Experience integrating safety systems and components.
    • Devices wiring and PLC programming (safety PLCs and relays).
    • Especially safety interlock systems including but not limited to door interlocks pressure relief valves safety exhaust valves light curtains etc.
  • Experience with common industrial hydraulic and pneumatic components (i.e. pumps valves metering and monitoring devices cylinders etc.).
  • Familiarity with robotics preferred but not required.
  • Must possess good communication skills be capable of working effectively with others and demonstrate a willingness to learn.
  • General mechanical aptitude and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to travel globally to support projects at outlying facilities as needed (5-25%)
