This position is funded in part by the Bhagwan Mallinath Professor of Jain Studies Fund. The condition of the fund requires that the professor have substantive training in Jainism teach courses in Jain Studies oversee an endowed annual student research project in Jainism and engage the broader Jain community.
The assistant professorship involves teaching in the University Core and the Theological Studies programs. While the usual teaching load for tenure-line faculty is defined asover two years (i.e. two classes per regular semester and three classes every fourth semester) this named professorship carries a 2-2 teaching load with the third course being replaced with university service connected to the Jain community. Applicants must show promise of excellence in both teaching and research. A Ph.D. or equivalent from an accredited institution is required. Exceptional A.B.D.s will be considered.
