Job Description:
Provides oversight consultative advice and guidance to others as the Lead Designer and/or top technical Development Specialist within the organization. Role also leads the future direction of development and design patterns to be used across multiple systems / complex applications / cross businesses and for new and emerging technology projects.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
CUSTOMER
- Responsible for advancing development and design practices through processes and tools setting development and design standards at business unit and/or enterprise level
- May also be accountable for the most complex applications/systems development programming/coding
- Provide deep subject matter expertise and define future direction in one or more technical areas or lead strategic development efforts on new or emerging technology projects for the business
- Accountable for providing technical leadership and coaching to others and providing guidance to senior management on large complex projects and represent the business unit in cross LOB task forces as needed
- Apply industry / technical expertise to provide innovative and sound solutions that increase business results and/or minimize risk
- Consult with clients and/or project teams with respect to all aspects of software / technical systems development/ design ensuring technology solution adheres to design principles and patterns and support business needs
- Contribute to the development of project plans by providing input and manage project estimates / initiatives communicating project status to business and management and providing timely escalation of issues
SHAREHOLDER
- Provide technical or design direction and oversight to multiple development teams working on different products / applications / platforms to ensure design consistency and interoperability
- Contribute to the development documentation communication and execution of a comprehensive strategy on policies solutions and processes for which decisions will be made regarding technology standards
- Validate that the integration solution deliverables and relevant designs to ensure integration architecture components are appropriately utilized to quality standards and traceability to requirements exists
- Protect / enhance the security availability of technology brand integrity and shareholder value by establishing parameters for continued investment in technology solutions and by providing technical risk analysis and assessment
- Employ and advocate the use of architecture frameworks standards and patterns to facilitate consistent and secure solutions design and delivery
- Ensure compliance with technology architecture and design/operate processes to provide ongoing review of in-progress activity against technology architecture and development standards
- Identify and communicate any cross-area or cross-release issues that may affect other areas and lead resolution of escalated issues
- Conduct pre and post implementation reviews ensuring all technical solutions have met business requirements
- Monitor services performance / operations and recommend any changes to SLA patterns / policies or the creation of new SLA patterns/policies to address operational issues
- Responsible for the creation and adoption of new design patterns and standards in support of the development team
- Contribute and/or conduct ongoing assessments of architecture and software development strategy influencing business and IT decisions to ensure consistency in approach
- Work in close partnership with Architects to ensure that all the components are integrated and support the development of enterprise frameworks standards and patterns

- Provide thought leadership and/or industry knowledge for own area of expertise to technical development / design teams in support of large scale complex transformational business initiatives

- Develop/maintain a proficient knowledge of system development methodologies key business initiatives / issues IT implications for systems or technologies and their impact on business solutions
- Identify and recommend opportunities to enhance productivity effectiveness and operational efficiency of the business unit and/or team
- Work effectively as a team supporting other members of the team in achieving business objectives and providing client services
- Participate in knowledge transfer within the team and business units
BREADTH & DEPTH
- Provides technical guidance direction or expertise to others as a Senior Specialist or top technical lead on significant and complex development / design issues that may impact transformational technology or cross business strategic initiatives
- Extensive understanding of the business supported and the overall Bank with deep expertise and specialized knowledge of technology concepts technical environment direction and related technology / tools
- Influential role that helps set bank standards on infrastructure architecture and various other areas of technology from a design / support / solutions perspective
- Works in close partnership with technology COE leads in Architecture Infrastructure Security and/or third party / external vendor leadership teams in assessing development / solutions designs to meet transformational or strategic needs of the Bank
- Reports directly to executive role with broader mandate
EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION
- Undergraduate degree or Technical Certificate
- Graduate degree preferred
- 10 years relevant experience
- 7 years experience with Rest APIs.
- 7 years experience with modern Java frameworks like Spring.
- 7 years experience using Java development tools (e.g. intelliJ JUnit Git).
- 5 years experience with Azure/AWS architecture and design.
- 3 years experience with Event Streaming platform like Kafka.
- 3 years Experience with MuleSoft.
- 7 years experience in Java development with strong knowledge of Object-Oriented principles.
- Ensure that all solutions are lightweight scalable and built to a high level of quality.
- Ensure security is being factored into each step of the software development process for various systems.
- Experience on Continuous Development with Continuous Integration (CI/CD) and tools such as Jenkins.
- Experience leading Geo diverse team
- Strong technical knowledge (Engineering Mindset).
