Glassboro Public Schools is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Long-Term Substitute Preschool Intervention and Referral Specialist (PIRS) and School Social Worker. This role is anticipated to begin in September 2025 and continue through January 2026. The selected candidate will support preschool-aged students and families within the districts state-funded Preschool Expansion Aid (PEA) program. Responsibilities include but are not limited to providing early intervention services family engagement consultation with staff and connection to community resources.
QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must hold or be eligible for a New Jersey Educational Services Certificate with the appropriate endorsement. The ideal candidate will have a background in social work that includes a strong understanding of educational and psychological principles knowledge of early childhood development familiarity with community-based services and experience using social casework strategies to support families and young children.

JOB GOAL/MAJOR FUNCTIONS:
The Preschool Intervention and Referral Specialist (PIRS) and School Social Worker provides support to preschool-aged students experiencing academic behavioral social-emotional or developmental challenges that may impact their success in the school setting. This role focuses on proactive school-based interventions and meaningful collaboration across three key areas: the home the school and the community.
Direct Student Support & Intervention:
Conduct observations and screenings to identify students who may require additional behavioral social-emotional or developmental support.
Collaborate with preschool teaching staff to implement tiered interventions within the general education setting.
Support the development and implementation of classroom strategies behavior plans and social-emotional learning supports.
Provide short-term school-based counseling for students as needed.
Family Engagement & Support:
Partner with families to identify needs and provide resources or referrals to appropriate community services (e.g. mental health housing food assistance).
Conduct family conferences to discuss student needs and progress offering guidance on parenting behavior support and early childhood development.
Maintain communication with families to strengthen the school-home connection and promote engagement in their childs education.
Collaboration & Consultation:
Serve as a resource to preschool teachers paraprofessionals and administrators regarding child development trauma-informed practices and classroom management strategies.
Participate inPreschool Intervention and Referral Team (PIRT) processes and follow-up on recommendations.
Consult with community-based preschool providers participating in the mixed delivery model as needed.
Maintain collaborative relationships with local service providers and community-based organizations.
Documentation & Reporting:
Maintain records of services provided student progress and family contacts in accordance with district and PEA requirements.
Assist with the completion of PEA-related documentation and program reports.
Participate in preschool program monitoring and self-assessment activities.
Professionalism & Other Duties:
Attend district and state training relevant to PEA and early childhood social work.
Remain current on best practices in early childhood education and intervention.
Uphold professional ethics and confidentiality standards.
Perform other duties within the scope of the role and certification as assigned by the Principal.
