JOB DESCRIPTION
The CAD Technician supports the planning design and preparation of detailed drawings and submittals for transportation and public infrastructure projects. These may include precast concrete components three-sided bridges box culverts and other structural systems.
In this role the CAD Technician is responsible for creating updating and modifying technical drawings in accordance with project specifications and client requirements. This includes maintaining an accurate catalog of product drawings and managing a digital drawing library for internal use and web-based platforms.
The CAD Technician will collaborate closely with engineers sales representatives production teams and quality control staff to ensure project deliverables are completed efficiently safely and in alignment with the most current shop drawings and design standards.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Create detailed technical drawings based on sketches plans and specifications using industry-standard computer-aided design (CAD) software following company drafting standards.
- Revise and update existing drawings perform basic calculations as directed and incorporate design changes as needed.
- Maintain an organized and accessible digital and physical work area to facilitate team collaboration and information sharing.
- Assist with special projects as assigned by project managers or engineering leadership.
- Provide drafting and documentation support to engineers and design professionals.
- Perform document control tasks including drawing reproduction scanning and electronic file management.
- Develop 2D and 3D shop drawings for manufactured products using CAD platforms.
- Generate specialized manufacturing and fabrication drawings for production.
- Ensure alignment with internal and external client timelines quality expectations and project deliverables.
- Create update and maintain accurate catalog and reference drawings for new and existing products supporting both production and quality assurance processes.
- Produce product assembly and shop drawings for sales teams engineering teams and production staff including special project requirements.
- Manage and maintain CAD files databases and engineering documentation in both digital and hard-copy formats.
- Collaborate and communicate effectively with customers engineers and production staff to ensure drawing accuracy and support a smooth workflow.
- Perform additional duties and support tasks as assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
This is an on-site position. Due to the hands-on nature of the work and responsibilities associated with this role the employee is required to be physically present at the work location to perform essential duties.
EDUCATION CERTIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associates or Bachelors degree in a related field (e.g. drafting engineering construction technology) preferred
- Technical training or coursework in computer-aided drafting (CAD) strongly preferred
- Experience or educational background in engineering principles is considered an asset
- Professional Engineer (PE) license highly desirable
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting sketches construction documents and civil engineering plans
- Ability to review and apply contract drawings and technical specifications
- Strong mathematical and analytical skills
- Detail-oriented organized and able to manage multiple projects independently after the initial training period
- Effective time management and the ability to prioritize competing tasks
