Job Description

Position Overview

The Curriculum Director provides leadership and oversight for all curriculum instruction and assessment programs serving students in kindergarten through eighth grade. This position ensures alignment with North Carolina Standard Course of Study supports teachers in implementing evidence-based instructional practices and drives continuous improvement in student achievement across all elementary and middle school programs. The job goals are to coordinate curriculum and instruction throughout the district and to support teachers in grades K-8 with training collaboration instructional strategies and resource needs.

Key Responsibilities

Curriculum Development & Management

  • Develop implement and evaluate K-8 curriculum aligned with North Carolina Standard Course of Study.
  • Lead curriculum review cycles and adoption processes for instructional materials and resources.
  • Ensure vertical and horizontal alignment of curriculum across grade levels and subject areas.
  • Coordinate with curriculum leadership to ensure smooth transitions into kindergarten middle and high schools and college/career readiness preparation.
  • Works with the Chief Academic Officer to provide coordinated system efforts in curriculum and instruction.

Instructional Leadership

  • Provide professional development and coaching support to teachers instructional coaches and administrators.
  • Collaborate with principals to implement effective instructional practices and classroom management strategies.
  • Monitor and analyze student performance data to inform instructional decisions and interventions.
  • Support implementation of differentiated instruction and MTSS frameworks.
  • Serves as consultant for principals teachers and central office staff for all areas of the curriculum.
  • Observes consults with and assists individual classroom teachers in their instructional and classroom performance.
  • Coordinates the development of curriculum maps benchmark tests and related materials.
  • Attends regional and state curriculum meetings and shares appropriate information with administrators teachers and parents.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Board of Education Superintendent of Asistant Superintendent.

Assessment & Data Analysis

  • Oversee district-wide assessment programs including formative summative and benchmark assessments.
  • Analyze student achievement data from North Carolina End-of-Grade tests and other state assessments.
  • Develop and implement data-driven improvement plans to address achievement gaps.
  • Provide training and support for teachers in data analysis and instructional adjustments.

Program Oversight

  • Supervise K-8 instructional programs including English Language Arts Mathematics Science and Social Studies.
  • Manage curriculum-related budgets and resource allocation.
  • Assists with county-wide events such as Spelling Bee Environmental Field Day and Science Fairs.



Professional Development & Support

  • Design and facilitate professional learning opportunities for teachers and administrators.
  • Coordinate with universities and educational organizations for ongoing professional development.
  • Mentor new teachers and support teacher retention initiatives.
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
  • Provides support in the orientation induction and training of new teachers in conjunction with the Beginning Teacher program.
  • Conducts regular district-wide meetings and high quality professional development related to curriculum and instruction aligned to the district strategic plan and school improvement plans.

Qualifications

  • Masters degree in Education Curriculum and Instruction Educational Leadership or related field. Doctoral degree in education or related field preferred.
  • Most hold or be able to obtain North Carolina Professional Educator Certification in relevant subject area(s).
  • Minimum five (5) years of successful teaching experience in a K-8 setting. Experience in North Carolina Public Schools preferred. Background in multiple subject areas or grade levels preferred.
  • Minimum three (3) years of administrative or curriculum leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with curriculum development implementation and evaluation.
  • Experience with data analysis and using assessment results to drive instruction.
  • Experience with grant writing and program evaluation preferred.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Deep understanding of North Carolina Standard Course of Study and assessment systems.
  • Knowledge of research-based instructional practices and pedagogical approaches.
  • Proficiency in educational technology and data management systems.
  • Strong oral and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work collaborative with diverse stakeholders.

Working Conditions

  • Full-time 12 month position.
  • Regular travel to school sites throughout the district.
  • Evening and weekend work required for meetings and professional development.
  • Collaborative work environment with frequent interaction with teachers administrators students and parents.
