Job Description

Primary Purpose
Reporting to the Executive Director for Resource Management the Business Manager is responsible for management of financial and budgetary transactions in designated Student Life departments by performing advanced level budgetary and programmatic data collection analysis and reporting to support student engagement success and retention. The Business Manager assists in the development of budget plans and projections for the Division of Student Life and provides back-up support to other areas in the Division as assigned.

Essential Functions
Working with University Budget and the Executive Director of Resource Management develops comprehensive budgets for assigned departments by analyzing data preparing reports and utilizing knowledge of University Division and units policies procedures and practices. Participates in the forecasting planning and analysis of monthly quarterly and year-end budget models for the Division of Student Life. Assists leadership in planning for the allocation and management of resources from current designated/restricted grant and gift funds. Provides recommendations for efficiencies and revenue generation per department operations. Develops and maintains strong customer service relationships with staff faculty students student organizations and other Division constituencies. Works closely and collaboratively with department leadership and campus partners including Financial Aid Human Resources University Budget Office Payroll Procurement Financial Reporting and Development. Submits and reviews contracts in Cobblestone to support AVP and VPSL areas and division functions. Reviews monthly reports identifying potential budget shortfalls (if any) and develops an action plan along with the appropriate department manager to rectify the issues. Reviews posted transactions for accuracy in budget coding and corrects any errors. Reviews and identifies potential budget surpluses/unallocated resources and works with the Division leadership to move funds to support Division goals and objectives. Provides back up to other departments and Business Managers as needed to support the Division of Student Life during vacations leaves or staff vacancies by cross-training and willingness to learn additional tasks software and processes. Responsible for the management and maintenance of financial records; Prepares all financial transactions including but not limited to journal entries budget transfers requisitions/purchase orders contracts and accounts payable for each area as well as processing area/staff reimbursement requests and personnel hiring actions in a timely manner. Provides training operational and technical support (e.g. Banner FAMIS EMS Chrome River Cobblestone SharePoint Handshake etc.) to staff. Assists in the development of procedures and tools to improve department and division operations focusing on the on-boarding and training of new staff. Attends monthly Business Manager Meetings and upon request may serve on various institutional committees. Improves technical skills and professional knowledge by keeping current with new and leading/best practices communicating with peers and attend mutually-agreed upon conferences and professional development opportunities. Performs other duties as assigned. This position serves as Campus Security Authority ( CSA ) as outlined by the Clery Act. CSAs have federally mandated responsibilities to report crimes that are reported them. Minimum Qualifications
Bachelors Degree (Two (2) years of full time experience in the same/similar position is equal to one (1) year of completed post high school education coursework). Two (2) years of experience in budget management and/or fiscal operations. Intermediate level Microsoft Excel skills.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Ellucian financial software Experience with Emburse Enterprise (Chrome River) software
