Position: Internship Coordinator Transfer High School
Program/Department: Brooklyn High School for Leadership and Community Service
Reports to: Program Director
Work Location: Clinton Hill Brooklyn NY
Hours: Full Time 35 hours per week - Monday - Friday 8:00am - 4:00pm This position is fully in-person and does not offer any remote work.
Salary Range: $42000 - $51000
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
Position Summary
Brooklyn Community Services is one of Brooklyns first and largest non-sectarian social services agencies. BCS which presently serves more than 10000 individuals annually is committed to a broad and diverse range of services including education and child care; services to strengthen families; and services to foster self-sufficiency for adults.
Brooklyn High School for Leadership and Community Service is a small academically rigorous full-time New York City Department of Education Transfer School designed to re-engage high school students who are over-age and under-credited or have dropped out of high school. BCS is directly responsible for the administration of the schools Learning-to-Work Program which enhances the schools academic component by offering additional academic support career and education exploration work preparation skills development and internships.
Responsibilities:
-Develop and oversee the implementation of the work readiness and internship programs at the school.
-Conduct orientation workshops for students interested in participating in the internship programs.
-Assist interested students with completing the required documents to enroll into the internship program.
-Meet with students perform work readiness assessments and assist them in identifying career choices.
-Build a career plan for each student based on assessments and goals - update every 3 months
- Work with both LTW and Learn and Earn interns
- Build partnerships with Pratt CUNY LIU to bring in and supervisor credential courses
- Conduct weekly seminars focusing on career and work readiness skills for all Internship Program participants aligned with CDOSS requirements.
- Develop and maintain a network of community-based internship placement sites aligned with students career interests.
- Organize and facilitate relevant Career and Job Readiness workshops panels and fairs such as Career Panels Job Fairs College trips etc.
- Ensure internship positions are clearly described in job description format and are posted when a position becomes available.
-Assist students with employment/internship applications including assisting students with developing employment portfolios that include resumes cover letter samples etc.
- Visit internship sites monthly and meet with supervisors bi-weekly to assess intern progress growth and professional development.
- Oversee performance evaluation for all interns.
-Document all work and keep case records on all students on caseload as required.
- Complete PAF for all students that are enrolled or program separation.
-Submit intern timesheets bi-weekly
-Complete a monthly Learning to Work Report for data collection purposes.
-Work closely with school and counseling team personnel as a member of the interdisciplinary team to best meet the holistic needs of the student.
-Oversees program development and execution of all workforce development services
-Communicate with Alumni and share resources that can connect them to job opportunities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Required:
-Bachelors degree required MSW preferred.
-Professionalism and ability to work as a team.
- Experience and demonstrated skill in working with youth and families required.
- Excellent organizational written and communication skills.
- Must have a commitment to work from a strength-based and/or youth development perspective.
