Full timePosition Summary and Qualifications:
Coach direct and oversee all aspects of a NCAA Division I Womens Rowing program in a manner that allows the program to compete in the Atlantic 10 and helps develop the student-athletes as people students and athletes.Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Teach coach mentor and inspire student-athletes up through graduation.
Hire manage supervise retain and develop outstanding assistant coach(es). Assign assistant coach(es) roles and responsibilities with respect to traditional coaching and additional duties.
Identify and recruit student-athletes who are capable of competing successfully on the NCAA Division I level and who are capable of succeeding academically and graduating.
Recruiting for womens rowing includes current Saint Josephs University students who are interested in learning to row and participating on the team as novice rowers
Determine individual and team strengths and develop strategies to maximize performance including individual athlete skill development team development formation and implementation of a tactical strategy.
Lead the team in a manner that respects the mission of Saint Josephs Athletics to transform student-athlete lives and achieve competitive excellence. Treat student-athletes colleagues opponents with respect. Represent Saint Josephs with integrity.
Establish and maintain a positive team culture that reflects the mission and values of the Saint Josephs Athletic Department; seek and respond to student-athlete and other feedback with a continuous improvement mindset.
Maintain an inclusive team culture in which all affiliated student-athletes and staff feel welcomed and comfortable being their authentic selves; engage in professional development that assists coaches and athletes in maintaining such culture.
Inform the student-athletes of expectations that focus on their own personal growth and hold them accountable as appropriate.
Foster an environment that helps student-athletes thrive and engage academically.
Provide oversight of all administrative aspects of the program including strategic management of the following:
Adhere to the operating budget and all University and departmental financial regulations and practices;
Achieve the annual program fundraising goal in collaboration with University advancement staff;
Develop season training and racing schedules designed to enable Saint Josephs to be competitive in the Atlantic 10 conference;
Ensure that appropriate safety precautions are taken in practice competition and during team travel and ensure that equipment is fully operational and fit for its intended use;
Coordinate all regular season and postseason travel;
Procure inventory and distribute all equipment/apparel and supplies;
Ensure satisfaction of all required compliance obligations including without limitation NCAA and boathouse lease requirements; and
Assist in the promotion of the program whenever and wherever possible including interacting with alumni to encourage (appropriate) participation in the program.
Engage in professional development to continue to hone coaching skills and strategies. Adopt new coaching techniques as appropriate.
Exhibit outstanding departmental citizenship; engage in departmental activities such as head coach meetings town hall meetings committee appointments and informal socialization with peers and others.
Must possess a thorough knowledge of NCAA and A10 rules; adhere to such rules and self-report any violations promptly.
Carry out the obligations and duties associated with the coachs role as a Campus Security Authority under the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act.
Minimum Qualifications:
Required:
Bachelors degree.
Minimum of five years of rowing coaching experience.
Knowledge of and adherence to NCAA and member conference rules and regulations.
Current CPR AED and First Aid certification must be maintained.
Valid drivers license and successful clearance of motor vehicle record check.
Successful background check clearances to include a PA Criminal Records Check FBI Fingerprinting Check and PA Child Abuse Clearance Check.
Preferred:
Masters degree.
Participated in collegiate rowing as a student-athlete.
Coaching experience at the collegiate level.
Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours:
Must have flexibility and be able to sustain long work hours including evenings early mornings and weekends.
Position requires frequent travel.
