EQUIPMENT OPERATOR I - OPERATIONS

Pay Grade: GRADE 125: $47 915.30 - $69477.18 Annual Salary ($23.04 - $33.40 Hourly)
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt Full-Time 40 Hours Weekly Eligible for Benefits
GENERAL PURPOSE
This position assists in performing semi-skilled and skilled labor in the construction maintenance and related service activities related to street traffic and sewer/storm water utility maintenance. Receives direct supervision from the Maintenance Supervisor or Maintenance Crew Leader.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Operate construction and maintenance equipment and power tools such as dump trucks front-end loader and backhoe vactor flush truck compressors jack hammers concrete saws street sweeper sewer rodders mowers edgers and blowers or any other equipment needed in sewer and storm water maintenance repairs.
- Maintain hand tools and assigned equipment; perform preventive maintenance on equipment.
- Know and understand underground utility locating procedures and blue stake policies and procedures.
- Install street barricades and cones prior to the performance of sewer and storm water repair activities.
- Direct and control traffic around work sites and maintain a current flagging certification.
- Utilize proper safety precautions related to all work performed.
- Be available for recall during any hour for sewer and storm sewer emergencies snow/ice control work or other emergency conditions.
- Respond to public inquiries in a courteous manner and provide information within the area of assignment.
- Resolve complaints in an efficient and timely manner.
- Respond to all emergency snow removal and ice control duties as required.
- Respond to and resolve difficult and sensitive citizen inquiries and complaints.
- Willing to accept duty as the Divisions stand-by person for a one-week period and respond to emergency calls 24-hours a day during this period.
- Participate in safety and risk management activities; take action to reduce liability to the city.
- Attendance and punctuality are essential functions of this position. Employee is required to work as a team and frequently meet with co-workers and supervisors; employee is required to communicate in-person with the public during office hours; and employee is required to use on-site equipment.
- Perform other related duties as required/assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- At least one year of general maintenance experience performing field maintenance work.
- High school diploma or its equivalent.
- Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities may be qualifying.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Possession of or ability to obtain an appropriate valid Class A Utah CDL drivers license with tanker endorsement within 150 days of hire.
- Possession of or ability to obtain a wastewater 1 certification within one year (if hired in the Sewer Division).
- Employee will be required to complete NIMS IS100 IS200 IS700 and IS800 within one year of hire.
FAILURE TO OBTAIN/MAINTAIN THE LICENSE AND CERTIFICATE AS OUTLINED ABOVE WILL RESULT IN TERMINATION FROM THE POSITION.
