Job Description

Job Goal: Arlington High School is seeking an experienced internal educator to serve in a dual role: serving as an instructional math coach (0.4 FTE) while also teaching 3 sections of math classes (0.6 FTE). This position is ideal for an educator who is excited to teach students and also lead professional development support peer growth and enhance instructional practices for the math department.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Valid Massachusetts teaching certification in secondary mathematics (grades 912).
  • Masters degree in Mathematics Education Curriculum & Instruction or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of successful classroom teaching experience in mathematics.
  • Knowledge of Massachusetts State Frameworks and current mathematics curriculum resources.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Experience differentiating mathematics instruction
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) and Universal Design for Learning (UDL)
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with teachers staff and leadership
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity inclusion and culturally responsive pedagogy.
  • Experience with student-centered problem-based math curriculum such as Illustrative Mathematics preferred.
  • Experience or training in instructional coaching teacher leadership or adult learning preferred.
  • Experience providing professional development to adult learners preferred
  • Ability to support colleagues in reflective practice and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to co-plan and co-teach lessons with classroom teachers consistent with district-wide initiatives
  • Experience communicating with parents/guardians about how children learn mathematics
  • Ability to analyze data and familiarity with spreadsheets
  • Administer score and interpret diagnostic instruments
  • Ability to discuss aggregated and disaggregated student learning data with teachers

Performance Responsibilities

  • Support the K-12 Director of Math & Computer Science in aligning high school and district-wide efforts with the APS Strategic Plan and yearly academic goals.
  • Collaborate with the Director and school/district leaders to shape and implement a shared vision for rigorous and equitable math instruction.
  • Collaborate with math teachers to plan implement and continuously improve instructional practices that align with district and state mathematics standards.
  • Lead coaching cycles that include classroom observations co-teaching lesson modeling and actionable feedback to support instructional growth.
  • Serve as a thought partner to teachers through 1:1 coaching small-group facilitation and large-group professional learning sessions.
  • Provide differentiated support for all math teachers with a targeted focus on new teacher development at the beginning of the school year and periodically throughout the year.
  • Facilitate and lead targeted professional development sessions.
  • Analyze student data to support instructional decision-making.
  • Work directly with other district math coaches and the Director to align monthly professional learning and curricular efforts.
  • Support the Director with monthly department meetings ordering supplies building schedules and other operational tasks as they arise.
  • Stipend for 10 days work beyond the school year.
  • Connect with:
    • Role-alike coaches across schools (monthly or as needed)
    • K-12 Mathematics and Computer Science Director (twice monthly or as needed)
    • Designated school Instructional Leadership Teams (ILT) (monthly)
    • ML teachers and building-based special educators (as needed)

REPORTS TO:K-12 Mathematics and Computer Science Director (primary) and building principals (contributing). The Mathematics Coach position is a district position with specific building assignments.

Salary and Benefits are consistent with theCollective Bargaining Agreement between the Arlington School Committee and the Arlington Education Association.

TheSalary Scheduleis on our website. Salary placement is based on Education and Experience.

Arlington has a well-established new teacher induction program with mentoring throughout the school year. The first official work day in the 2025-2026 school year will be August 27 2025. However new staff are required to attend several days of orientation and training during the last two weeks of August.

EVALUATION: The performance of this job will be evaluated as per the Arlington Education Association Contract. The K-12 Mathematics and Computer Science Director will complete evaluations with support from the building principals.
