Job Description

Job Name: Insurance Eligibility Specialist
Work Hours: 40 hours a week: EST timezone
Salary Range: $1000 - $1500

Role Overview

The Insurance Eligibility Specialist is responsible for verifying insurance benefits confirming patient coverage and identifying authorization requirements in advance of appointments. This position plays a vital role in streamlining the patient experience and reducing billing errors or delays.

Key Responsibilities

  • Verify insurance eligibility and benefit details for upcoming patient appointments

  • Confirm co-pays deductibles and coverage for optometry services

  • Contact insurance providers via phone or portal to gather real-time information

  • Communicate with the front desk or billing teams about patient coverage issues

  • Identify and track pre-authorization or referral requirements

  • Accurately input all insurance and verification data into EMR or billing systems

  • Flag discrepancies or inconsistencies for escalation and resolution

  • Maintain records of eligibility checks and communications for audit purposes


Requirements

  • 2 years of experience in medical or vision insurance verification medical billing or revenue cycle management

  • Strong understanding of insurance terminology (PPO HMO co-insurance out-of-network pre-authorization etc.

  • Experience communicating with U.S.-based insurance carriers

  • Ability to use online portals EHRs or clearinghouses to check eligibility and benefits

  • High attention to detail and excellent organizational skills

  • Strong English communication skills (verbal and written)

  • Comfortable working remotely with minimal supervision

  • Reliable internet connection and stable working environment

  • Availability to work U.S. time zones or partial overlap as needed

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in an optometry ophthalmology or general healthcare setting

  • Familiarity with U.S. vision plans (e.g. VSP EyeMed Spectera Davis Vision)

  • Experience with EMR or billing platforms such as Eyefinity Office Ally or similar

  • Prior offshore experience with U.S. clients is a strong plus
