About the Role: The Engineer Intern will support the utilities division within RailPros focusing on utilities infrastructure in the railroad system. This position provides valuable hands-on experience in civil engineering with an emphasis on utilities. The intern will work on various engineering tasks collaborate with the engineering team and contribute to the successful completion of utilities projects.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the design and analysis of utilities infrastructure projects including water wastewater drainage and electrical systems.
  • Conduct field inspections and surveys to assess existing infrastructure and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Prepare engineering drawings specifications and technical reports.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers and stakeholders to ensure compliance with engineering standards regulations and safety guidelines.
  • Use engineering software and tools for calculations modeling and simulations.
  • Support project planning and scheduling ensuring timely completion of tasks.
  • Assist in the coordination and management of contractors and suppliers on utilities projects.
  • Contribute to cost estimation and budgeting for utilities infrastructure projects.
  • Participate in project meetings and provide updates on project progress and key milestones.
  • Stay informed on industry trends best practices and emerging technologies in utilities engineering within the railroad industry.
  • Perform other duties as required to support business needs.

Qualifications

Knowledge Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of civil engineering principles especially in utilities infrastructure.
  • Proficiency in engineering software and tools for civil engineering design and analysis.
  • Familiarity with engineering codes standards and regulations related to utilities infrastructure.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a dynamic environment.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate work.
  • Knowledge of project management concepts.
  • Strong work ethic and eagerness to learn and adapt.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Enrollment in a Civil Engineering degree program or related field.
  • Completed coursework or training in civil engineering fundamentals.
  • Basic knowledge of engineering software applications.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Completion of coursework in utilities infrastructure design and analysis.
  • Familiarity with railroad engineering principles and practices.
  • Internship or co-op experience in civil engineering or utilities engineering.
  • Proficiency in utilities-related engineering software.
  • Knowledge of construction practices and construction management principles.
