A TRIO SSS (Student Support Services) Project Advisor plays a crucial role in providing support services to eligible students aiming to improve their academic performance retention and graduation rates.

Essential Duties
  • Academic Advising:
    • Provide guidance on course selection degree planning and academic progress.
    • Assess individual needs and develop tailored educational plans.
    • Help students improve study skills time management and test-taking strategies.
    • Offer support and intervention for students facing academic challenges.
  • Personal and Career Development:
    • Provide personalized counseling and support services.
    • Assist with career exploration planning and goal setting.
    • Organize and facilitate workshops on relevant topics like financial literacy college success and personal development.
    • Connect students with campus and community resources.
  • Program Coordination and Administration:
    • Monitor and track student progress maintaining accurate records and documentation.
    • Assist with program-related activities events and workshops.
    • Contribute to reports required by the Department of Education or the institution.
    • Maintain program information and communication channels such as social media platforms.
  • Advocacy and Support:
    • Serve as an advocate for students with faculty staff and other departments as needed.
    • Ensure compliance with federal regulations governing the TRIO SSS program.
    • Promote a supportive and inclusive environment for students.
    • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
Professional Development Requirements
  • Knowledge of assessment and data collection learning styles and learning assistance strategies and experience utilizing a coaching approach to student assistance.
  • Knowledge of academic advising and college career financial aid and economic literacy activities and related services for SSS-Eligible Students.
  • Experience assisting SSS-Eligible Students with the graduation process and promoting graduate school enrollment with admissions and financial aid advising services.
  • Ability to effectively maintain a caseload of Participants and provide them with documented services and activities.
  • Knowledge of barriers to postsecondary education faced by low-income and first-generation college students.
  • Professional or personal experiences in overcoming barriers similar to those confronting Participants.
Qualifications
  • Bachelors Degree Required; Masters Degree Preferred in education counseling social work or related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of appropriate and relevant professional experience working in a TRIO federal program or similar related program for disadvantaged or at-risk college students
Physical Demands
  1. Sitting for extended periods of time.
  2. Looking at a computer monitor for extended periods of time.
  3. Must be able to lift 25 pounds.
  4. Must have a valid drivers license
  5. Some work during weekends and nights required (for conference travel and/or student events)
