Required:
- Bachelors degree in human services or equivalent; or minimum or five (5) years or supervisory experience in a comparable work environment
- Experience with development of goals and performance measures performance evaluations inspections employee conduct guidelines and implementation developing and delivering training.
Desired Education and Experience:
- Custodial/facilities certifications/or other professional training.
- Experience in a union environment.
- Experience supervising large teams of staff members across multiple buildings.
- Experience in a school setting college/university or hospital environment.

BASIC FUNCTION:
Responsible for supervising approximately 80 custodial staff members for daily operations and performance of custodial services across multiple buildings in the district. This includes yet not limited to task assignments scheduling and prioritization; hiring training performance and conduct monitoring; formal evaluations and ongoing professional development. This position ensures a clean safe and healthy learning environment for students staff and the community by supervising custodial staff maintaining operational standards and supporting long-term facility care strategies. This role requires continual use of independent judgment. The essential functions as shown below represent only the key areas of responsibility; specific position requirements will vary depending on the needs of the facilities department and shift assignment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Direct the hiring process through screening candidates interviews onboarding training and mentoring of custodial staff.
- Develop and implement a maintenance checklist used to collaborate with school principals building staff and district leadership to promptly address custodial needs and concerns.
- Supervise train and evaluate custodial teams across assigned school facilities.
- Develop and implement cleaning schedules and best practices to ensure consistent cleanliness and sanitation for assigned schools.
- Conduct regular inspections of buildings to monitor quality of performance identify concerns and ensure compliance with safety standards and preventative measures.
- Develop and manage inventory and ensure proper usage of supplies and light maintenance of custodial equipment (e.g. auto scrubbers vacuums floor care tools) to optimize the use of district resources. Minimize waste and stay within allocated budget.
- Develop and present training for new and existing custodial staff including yet not limited to initial hiring regular meetings with chiefs/first assistants and custodial staff cleaning procedures chemical safety light equipment repairs and emergency response.
- Oversee the maintenance and repair of department equipment within the area of responsibility.
- Develop and implement safeguards to prevent staff injury property loss equipment damage and mechanical equipment failure.
- Collaborate with facilities management staff to achieve preventative maintenance and energy conservation goals through custodial staff oversight.
- Develop and maintain and report accurate records related to staffing inspections schedules and work orders.
- Organize and maintain appropriate staffing levels at all times to maximize performance when planning and scheduling for school events inclement weather response and emergency building operations.
- Develop and enforce all established policies procedures and work rules for custodial employees.
- Investigate allegations of employee misconduct or skill and apply appropriate employee conduct guidelines and/or performance improvement plans collaborating with personnel manager.
- Develop and maintain work schedules to meet facility needs across the assigned district buildings.
- Collaborate with building and department administrators for input to complete formal evaluations of custodial personnel.
