Assistant Civil Engineer – Queens BE

**To be considered for this position candidate must be reachable on the civil service list for Assistant Civil Engineer Exam #5015 or be eligible under the 55a program. Proof of filing will be required.**

Traffic Control & Engineering is seeking a dedicated and driven Assistant Civil Engineer (ACE) to join our Queens Borough Engineering Office. The selected candidate will perform civil engineering work of moderate difficulty and responsibility including but not limited to conducting a range of professional transportation and traffic-related projects studies research and investigations. Responsibilities include documenting existing conditions and issues proposing improvements conducting field investigations and potentially supervising staff. The role requires active participation in the inspection of operations by observing checking and certifying the installation of materials and equipment as well as collecting data conducting field surveys and evaluating traffic conditions. Additionally the candidate will review and approve work orders ensure compliance with established guidelines and specifications and may recommend enhancements to improve efficiency. The candidate must have proficient computer skills as the job involves data entry and the use of city-specific transportation software such as the Sign Information Management System (SIMS). Tasks also include preparing forms reports logs and correspondence. Ideal candidates will be meticulous accurate effective team players and must maintain a positive attitude coupled with outstanding communication skills. Responsibilities also include strict adherence to all agency safety protocols to maintain a safe work environment including the correct usage of safety equipment and attire at work sites. The office draws on the expertise and talents of engineers sign designers planners inspectors IT experts analysts and others to help the agency achieve Vision Zero and other city goals.

Preferred Skills
with a valid New York State motor vehicle drivers license will be given preference.
knowledge of traffic engineering principles and standards.
ability to plan and develop projects implement strategies and articulate concise reports.
in the Department of Transportations Sign Information Management System (SIMS).

Qualifications :

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in civil engineering and one year of full-time satisfactory experience in civil engineering work; or

2. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and a Masters degree from an accredited college in civil engineering.
