Job Description

$10.25/HR

Position Summary

Under general supervision ensures the safety of patrons of an aquatic facility by preventing and responding to emergencies.

Duties and Responsibilities

(These duties and responsibilities are judged to be essential functions in terms of the Americans With Disabilities Act or ADA)

  • Maintains constant surveillance of patrons in the facility; acts immediately and appropriately to secure safety of patrons in the event of emergency.
  • Provides emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services.
  • Presents professional appearance and attitude at all times and maintains a high standard of customer service.
  • Performs various maintenance duties as directed to maintain a clean and safe facility.
  • Prepares and maintains appropriate activity reports.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Education Experiences Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Education:

  • Less than high school diploma. Must be at least 15 years old and obtain a work permit.
  • Lifeguard certification. CPR & First Aide.

Experience:

  • Minimum 6 months of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of school policies and safety regulations required.
  • Skill in the application of lifeguarding surveillance and rescue techniques.
  • Knowledge of CPR and emergency medical procedures.

Skills:

  • Good communication skills required.
  • Successful completion of written and water test required
  • Certified first aide CPR and lifeguarding required
  • Experience working with children preferred.

Abilities:

  • Ability to be caring understanding and friendly towards patrons required.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Ability to read and interpret school policies and handbook required.
  • Ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions furnished in written oral or diagram form required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students staff and community required.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to sit use hands to finger handle or feel; talk and hear. The employee is regularly required to swim. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; and stoop kneel crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds of materials etc. Specific vision abilities required by this job include far vision and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud.
