We are recruiting for a professionally qualified archivist to work as part of the Archives and Cornish Studies team based at Kresen Kernow (Kresen Kernow A home for Cornwalls archives) the archive centre for Cornwall. The collection includes the usual range of local authority archives dating from the 12th century to the present day as well as an extensive Cornish studies library.
The Role
The archivist role includes a wide range of professional duties from responding to customer enquiries oversight of the reading room and strongroom security to dealing with depositors accessioning and cataloguing and supporting our outreach programmes. The archivists work closely with other colleagues in the front-facing public service as part of a small friendly and highly motivated team.
This is a public and customer-facing role where the statutory English language requirement for public sector workers applies.
This position will be subject to a standard criminal record disclosure check.
Working Pattern
The role is 0.6 FTE (22.2 hours per week) and requires the ability to work mainly on Tuesdays Wednesdays and Thursdays (the days Kresen Kernow is open to the public) along with some regular Saturdays (with time off in lieu for Saturdays).
What youll need to succeed
The successful candidate must have a specialist degree in archives and records (or an equivalent heritage or information sector qualification) with the ability to catalogue to ISAD(G) standards using archival cataloguing software specifically CALM; excellent communication organisational and interpersonal skills; good competence in IT and the ability to meet deadlines.
