Job Description
Position Summary:
The Elementary Physical Education (PE) Teacher creates and delivers engaging physical education programs for students in grades K-2 focusing on developing motor skills promoting physical activity and fostering healthy lifestyles. The Adapted Physical Education (APE) Teacher provides individualized physical education instruction or services for students with an IEP. Adapted physical education teachers evaluate and assess motor competency physical fitness play recreation leisure and sports skills. The APE teacher supports the development and implementation of IEPs based upon assessment findings.
The ideal candidate will:
-Collaborate with school personnel parents and various community agencies for the purpose of improving the quality of student outcomes developing solutions and planning curriculum.
-Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.

-Promote high standards and expectations for student achievement
-Plan and deliver effective instruction
-Execute the subject matter knowledge requirements specific for Physical Education Teachers and Adaptive PE Teachers including:
- Creating varied and engaging tasks projects and presentations that children in grades K-5 can successfully accomplish
- Developing age-appropriate standards based lesson and unit plans for a range of ages grades and student abilities
- Collaborating with general subject teachers and specialist teachers to develop cross disciplinary lesson plans and integrated units that build transfer skills and knowledge in students
- Developing in each student an understanding of the relationship of good body function and exercise
- Inspiring each student to cultivate physical fitness hygienic habits proper nutrition good sleep habits mindfulness stress management and other social/emotional strategies and health;
- Developing strength skill agility poise and coordination in individual dual and team physical activities and sports in accordance with each pupils ability.
- Strong emphasis on holistic health instruction incorporating physical mental and social health aspects into the classroom
- Designing and carrying out developmentally appropriate motivating APE curriculum/ programming as warranted by IEP goals / MA curriculum frameworks/ MA Common Core Standards.
- Providing direct individual and/or group instruction.
- Administering APE assessment as needed for the IEP process.
- Attending IEP meetings for own caseload as required by Principal/designee.
- Providing trans-disciplinary programming through consultation with teachers and other therapeutic staff.
- Consulting with classroom staff in implementing goals of all students.
- Collecting analyzing and maintaining data on all students on caseload.
- Conducting quarterly progress reports.
- Organizing daily schedule to meet caseload requirements and use indirect time appropriately.
- Consulting with staff in other discipline areas to improve programming.
- Facilitating ongoing parent contact and encourage family involvement. Responsible for maintaining licensure and meeting professional development requirements for licensure.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelors degree from an accredited institution accredited institution
- Massachusetts Teacher License in Physical Education required PreK-8 and endorsement in Physical Education for Students with Disabilities (SP) or additional APE experience preferred.
