JOB ASSIGNMENT: Work Foundations Sunbury PA 17801
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP: As a Transition Work Experience Job Coach this position will be responsible for providing students with hands-on training evaluation and transportation in their individualized work experiences. The job coach will work directly with the Program Supervisor Transition Coordinator and work site manager/coordinator to arrange work experience placements provide on the job skills training and coaching pertaining to the specific placement and students skill set and ongoing evaluation and progress monitoring. The Transition Work Experience Job Coach position is evaluated by the Special Education and Off-Site Program Supervisor and their absence the Director of Special Education and Alternative Placements.
JOB DEFINITION: The Transition Work Experience Job Coach is employed to provide students in CSIU special education programs with hands-on real-world work experiences and on the job coaching in their field of interest. The Transition Work Experience Job Coach provides students with both instructional and non-instructional support while on the job. This is a non-tenured position and is subject to annual review. The Transition Work Experience Job Coach is responsible for the efficient performance of assigned activities including those described below.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs instructional and non-instructional activities as assigned and supervised by the Special Education and Off-Site Program Supervisor.
- Provides student coaching evaluation and supervision while in the work placement as assigned.
- Utilizes positive behavior support strategies to effectively manage student behavior.
- Demonstrates the ability to work as part of a team.
- Displays competence and good judgment in dealing with any physical and/or medical emergencies which might arise.
- Demonstrates ability to utilize technology.
- Collaborates with the IEP team to assist in developing an educational program that will be directed toward the development of academic communication transition and social/emotional skills.
- Adheres to Federal State IU District and other applicable procedures policies and regulations.
- Assist in the preparation of hands-on training instruction for students identified for training and provide specific hands-on training to students placed in community training placements.
- Assist in making necessary arrangements for students beginning work (i.e. working papers permission slips interviews training agreement etc.).
- Maintain consistent contact with cooperating employers and training facilities and classroom teachers.
- Provide evaluation data to the team and distribution of this information to team members.
- Responsible to become familiar with and follow federal and state laws and regulations and assist teams with interagency coordination (i.e. child labor laws employment security vocational rehabilitation).
NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
- An Associates degree or a minimum of 60 credits in related studies with 2-4 years experience in social services environment will be considered. A Bachelors degree preferred.
- The attainment of the special education competency checklist or the Child Development Associate certificate (CDA) is required within 90 school days of initial employment.
- Evidence of mature and conscientious adult behavior a serious interest in and solicitude for the general welfare of the exceptional child is expected.
- Ability to communicate verbally and ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with staff and work site coordinators.
- Ability to be flexible in adapting to various student schedules and the ability to adapt to various student behavioral needs are required.
ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS:
- Current approved Act 34 (PA State Police) Act 151 (PA Child Abuse Registry) and Act 114-FBI Fingerprint clearances are required and must be renewed at appropriate specific intervals pursuant to Act 153 of 2014 (revised Act 15 of 2015).
- Current approved Act 126 Mandated Reporter Training certificate showing completion of a minimum of three (3) hours training every five (5) years.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT REQUIREMENTS:
- Achieve annual certification in Safe Crisis Management/Safety Care.
- CPR / First Aide certified.
- Complete professional development opportunities as recommended by the immediate supervisor or required of the position.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to position students and to provide safe crisis management.
- Sedentary: Able to sit for extended periods of time occasional walking standing (as necessary) and able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
- Dexterity: Finger movements (computer keyboard calculator) eye-hand coordination (office equipment etc.).
- Audio-Visual Requirements: Within normal range with or without correction.
- Is able to move throughout all buildings floors and grounds.
- Worksite Environment: Primarily indoors-office setting with occasional exposure to outdoor elements/climate during the day.
- Mental demands: Steady response to unpredictable situations ability to remain calm and productive during stressful situations. Demonstrates independent judgment discretion and is able to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Must acquire and maintain a valid Pennsylvania drivers license in order to travel to various work site locations and meetings as needed.
TIME AND SITE REQUIREMENTS:
- This is a full time non-exempt position following a 7.5 hour per day 185-day school-year schedule. This may entail occasional overnight travel to seminars or training.
- Attendance at work is a requirement of this position; any and all absences must be approved by the immediate supervisor.
