Summary: Lead campus construction from concept to completion. Oversee planning design and delivery of facilities projects that shape the future of NMSUs built environment.
Classification Summary:
Develops facility renovation projects from initiation stage through planning design and construction. Manages projects from early development stages through completion and final close out by strategic application of project management skills knowledge and tools to define price schedule and complete various design and construction phases for a wide variety of university projects. Performs architectural design development and management duties for a variety of new construction and renovation projects. Plans layout of project and integrates related architectural and engineering elements for the development of construction documents. Develops specifications conducts materials research and selects materials required for renovations and alterations. Reviews drawings and documents to ensure compliance with specifications and standards.
Classification Standard Duties:
Prepares and reviews plans construction bid documents and specifications for major and minor capital improvement projects and for alteration and renovation projects. Coordinates development of project design with client various university departments project architects and consultants. Prepares budget schedule construction bid documents and specifications for major and minor capital improvement projects. Develop contracts and procure services of consultants contractors and various service providers needed on a project. Prepares reviews and integrates design phase planning policies procedures and processes. Conducts pre-bid and pre-construction conference and overview orientation of final project design drawings and specifications with project architects consultants and appropriate university personnel. Prepares reviews and integrates construction planning policies procedures and bid processes. Tracks and coordinates project progress and costs; reviews and approves design invoices construction pay applications amendment or change order proposals and other contract documents. Monitors design progress through periodic and scheduled phase review of consultants work. Monitors construction progress through on-site inspection and review. In conjunction with a variety of University departments coordinates and performs; moving services; closeout functions such as commissioning and punch list specialized equipment testing training and warranty repair. Supervises and guides the work of architectural drafters. Supervises and guides the work of various university departments. Reviews drawings documents and construction activities to ensure compliance with specifications and standards. Develop contracts and procure services of consultants contractors and various service providers. Performs other miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Required Education Experience Certification/License Equivalency
Required Education:Bachelors degree in a related field.; Required Experience:Three (3) years of experience directly related to the standard duties as outlined.; Equivalency:Associates degree in a related field and five (5) years of experience directly related to the standard duties as outlined. Successful completion of a 4 or 5 year approved Construction Trades Apprenticeship program resulting in a licensed of journeyman status may substitute for the bachelors degree.; Required Certification/License:

Job Duties and Responsibilities
Oversees facility construction and renovation projects from concept through completion. This role involves project planning budgeting scheduling design coordination and construction administration for a wide range of capital and improvement projects. Prepares construction documents and specifications procures consultants and contractors conducts pre-bid and pre-construction meetings and monitors work to ensure adherence to university standards and building codes. Responsibilities include contract development cost tracking review of design documents onsite inspections and coordination of project closeout activities such as commissioning equipment testing and warranty follow-up. This position also supervises internal teams and provides guidance to drafters and support personnel. Strong project management communication and organizational skills are essential to effectively lead and deliver high-quality projects in a dynamic university environment.
