Overview
The Nutritional Services Manager will be responsible for leading a portfolio of work related to nutrition and food prioritized as a Health and Wellness strategy in the DOC Strategic Plan. This role will develop and direct programs and initiatives to improve the health and wellbeing of incarcerated people through enhanced nutrition and institutional food practices. These range from more nutritional meals sourced by local agriculture to working with the medical contractor to develop individualized meal plans for people with chronic medical conditions such as diabetes hypertension allergies or pregnancy. In addition the position will ensure the Department can comply with nutritional and legal standards and guidelines for accommodating dietary restrictions for health or religious reasons and address culturally appropriate dietary needs as well as food safety practices. By focusing on improving the food DOC serves this position will directly impact the health and wellbeing of people in DOC care and custody.
Competitive candidates will have extensive knowledge about nutrition as well as health sanitary and safety practices involved in institutional and large-scale cooking and food services. Competitive candidates will also have experience working in a correctional setting and demonstrate a commitment to the Departments strategic focus on health and wellness. This position requires excellent organizational skills strong communication skills experience overseeing and guiding complex projects with multiple stakeholders and the ability to work independently as well as on teams. Preferred qualifications include experience with government procurement and a ServSafe Managerial certification.

As of July 14 2025 the step 1 rate for pay grade 26 will be $34.03 per hour.

Environmental Factors
Duties are performed in a variety of settings including an office setting within a correctional facility in public meetings etc. A valid drivers license is necessary for required travel. Duties may entail evening or weekend activity. This position will interact directly with incarcerated people regularly to accomplish the goals and objectives of the role.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelors degree in nutrition public health food sciences dietetics or related field AND two (2) years or more of work experience in institutional food and nutritional services.
OR
Associates degree in a nutrition or food science related field AND four (4) years or more of work experience in institutional food and nutritional services.
OR
Six (6) or more years of work experience in institutional food and nutritional services.
Preferred Qualifications
- ServSafe Managerial
- Experience working in a Correctional Facility
- Experience working in agriculture
Special Requirements
Candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position. AHS Policy 4.02 Hiring Standards pursuant to 20 V.S.A. 2056c or other applicable statutory authority requires criminal record checks for all AHS positions including motor vehicle driving record checks and national record checks where appropriate.
