The primary responsibility of this role is to perform product and process development in the film and sheet processing of the Specialty Films subdivision.
Major Tasks & Responsibilities:
- Develop modified and new grades of TPU polycarbonate and multilayer film and sheet products
- Develop multi-layer and cast-on-carrier products
- Lead key development projects
- Support projects that require capital investments
- Explore and assess polymer chemistries new to Covestro
- Provide Technical Service to our Customer Base
- Document and report progress of the product development programs;
- Provide technical advice to vendor selection
- Collaborate with Specialty Films technical staff globally
- Provide leadership and support to local plant operations for upgrades and new processing technologies
Basic Qualifications:
- High school diploma with 14 years of professional experience relevant to the Major Tasks & Responsibilities of the position; OR Associates degree in an engineering or related technical discipline with 9 years of relevant professional experience; OR Bachelors degree in an engineering discipline with 6 years of relevant professional experience; OR Masters degree in an engineering discipline with 4 years of relevant professional experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Degree in chemical engineering or plastics engineering
- Specific experience with manufacturing or development of plastic films including thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) polycarbonate (PC) or similar
- Specific familiarity with DOE software such as JMP or Minitab
Knowledge and Skills:
- Demonstrated problem solving and analytical skills;
- Strong verbal written communication and presentation skills;
- Ability to translate development activities into commercially viable technologies and products
- Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to influence others
- Proven track record of project management and cross-functional project team leadership
- Strong computer skills in Excel Word and PowerPoint.
