The successful candidate will be part of a larger research team involved in genetic epidemiological and molecular genetic investigations of complex diseases such as type 2 diabetes and obesity.
This is a grant-funded position. Grant funded positions are time-limited and are contingent upon sufficient grant funding.
Responsibilities:
They will perform construction/reconstruction of pedigrees in a given study using programs such as INDEX (PEDSYS); and pedigree/chart preparations data analysis and management using programs such Ped-Draw (PEDSYS) and Progeny (Ambry Genetics).
The candidate is expected to carry out analysis related to genotype error checking to address the issue of Mendelian inconsistencies and inference of genotypes using programs such as INFER (PEDSYS).
They will be responsible to perform data quality assurance and quality control related activities prior to data analysis and contribute to data entry storage management and transfer through interactions with the project/database manager.
They will help the recruitment team regarding generation of mailouts and health reports for the study participants and pedigree charts for identification of study participants in a given pedigree for the purpose of recruitment.
In addition they are expected to interact with the study investigators in matters related to the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) operations such as collection of related databases conversion of tabular data into GIS format and geocoding the addresses of study participants and other locations such as neighborhood restaurants and playgrounds as needed.
Education and Experience:
Bachelors degree or higher in relevant field.
Two (2) years of related experience.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Prior knowledge and experience in activities related to genetic studies of complex diseases including pedigree data analysis/management and GIS-related research activities are required.
They are expected to have excellent communication skills given the multidisciplinary nature of the research projects.
