Job Description

  • Aboriginal Identified Opportunity - Ranger Grade 1-2
  • Ongoing role located in Dubbo or Cobar - the successful candidate may be eligible for additional financial support on top of their salary package. This may include a remote area allowance and additional subsidies such as relocation support
  • Package includes salary ($72051-$111288) employers contribution to superannuation 17% loading for working weekends and public holidays and annual leave loading

About the role
NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service is inviting an adventurous and passionate Ranger to join our collaborative and supportive team working in Western NSW from either Cobar or Dubbo. Our staff are passionate about the spectacular reserves they manage and bring their full self to the job every day helping drive innovation and delivery of projects.
Our Rangers are responsible for planning implementing and supervising projects conducting environmental assessments liaising with visitors and stakeholders and collaborating with a wide range of people within and external to the agency. Your strong communication and problem-solving skills will assist you in tackling evolving reserve management priorities. Outdoor duties such as pest weed fire and conservation management will balance indoor project management and planning work. To thrive in this role you will be a team player who respects diversity and values a variety of opinions.

Your fitness and enthusiasm will enable you to thrive and succeed in this diverse fast-paced role. It an essential requirement you have completed a degree in a relevant field of study such as protected area management and you are required to provide a copy of your degree qualifications prior to interview.


Essential requirements
  • This is an identified role under Section 14d of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 and as such Aboriginality is an essential requirement of the role.
  • Aboriginal identified positions are developed where Aboriginal identity cultural knowledge or connections are a genuine aspect of the role. Positions are specifically noted under the provisions of the NSW Anti-discrimination Act (1977) for Aboriginal people who meet the following criteria:
- is of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent and
- identifies as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person and
- is accepted as a such by the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community.
  • A degree or equivalent relevant to the field operations of the Agency.
  • Current Australian Class C Drivers licence or equivalent and ability to operate four-wheel-drive vehicles.
  • Required to obtain certification at the appropriate level prior to undertaking firefighting/incident control duties.
  • Willingness to fly in light aircraft and preparedness and ability to be involved in incident management duties including firefighting
This is a physically active role suited to candidates of all genders who are fit enjoy working outdoors as part of a team and are eager to learn and develop the skills and qualifications needed to contribute toward improving and maintaining some of NSWs most precious natural places. Applicants must meet the requirements of a specific medical assessment which is inclusive of a clearance to undertake the fitness test for firefighting fitness roles (i.e. moderate level Task-Based Assessment for Firefighters) within the 12-month probationary period if relevant.
The role holder must obtain certification at the appropriate level prior to undertaking firefighting/incident control duties.
