Summary
Join a mission-driven team that supports students with special education needs in grades 612 through a flexible community-based approach. As a Special Education Teacher youll work outside the classroommeeting students in familiar supportive spaces like libraries cafs or local community rooms. Caseloads are intentionally kept small and manageable and while your core service area includes the listed counties you may occasionally support students in similar nearby locations. Youll lead instruction while Community Support Staff (paras) assist students day-to-day across the region.
What Youll Do
- Deliver individualized instruction in non-classroom settings tailored to student IEPs
- Travel to community-based sites such as libraries Starbucks or learning centers across counties
- Collaborate closely with paras to implement instructional and behavioral strategies
- Monitor progress and lead communication with families supervisors and other support team members
- Maintain IEP documentation and support compliance
- Create flexible weekly schedules to accommodate caseloads and location logistics
- Receive mileage reimbursement for additional travel beyond standard commuting radius
Experience Youll Need
- Bachelors or Masters degree (transcript from an accredited institution required)
- MSDE Special Education certification or active pursuit via an alternative prep program
- Familiarity with Praxis testing requirements (Reading Writing Math and Special Ed Core)
- Prior experience working with special education students or in alternative learning environments preferred
- Must be comfortable working independently and traveling to various counties
- Reliable transportation and strong communication skills essential
