Job Description
JOB TITLE: Adult Education Lead Teacher
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Director of Community Learning
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Under the direction of the Director of Community Learning the Adult Education Lead Teacher provides reading writing social studies math and science instruction to students 18 and older and not enrolled in school (K-12). Provides an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual physical social and emotional development of individuals to ensure success for every student. Monitors and evaluates student outcomes. Communicates and interacts with students staff and community. Develops selects and modifies instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students. Maintains appropriate records and follows required procedures and practices. Monitors appropriate use and care of equipment materials and facilities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Responsible for serving as Lead Teacher for the Adult Basic Education program English as a Second Language Pre-GED and GED courses using instructional methods geared toward the adult learner in a classroom setting.
- Plans lessons based on the learning needs of culturally diverse and multi-skill level students which prepare students to pass the GED tests and/or enhance basic education skills.
- Implements a variety of instructional delivery methods including group or individualized instruction as well as computer programs that help students make learning gains.
- Administers TABE tests to determine individual progress.
- Completes and maintains appropriate student registration attendance and assessment records and ensures timely submission of data for NRS input.
- Integrates computer-aided instruction into lessons as appropriate.
- Participates in faculty and professional meetings educational conferences and teacher training workshops if required.
- Collaborates with colleagues and serves as the lead member of the adult education instructional team.
- Performs other duties as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelors Degree required. Teaching experience preferred.

Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels. Visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data operation of office equipment determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work and observing general surroundings and activities. The worker is not subject to adverse environmental conditions.
