Our Campuses: Why Choose Ohio University About the Office of Faculty Learning and Advancement Position Summary: The Senior Director of Medical Teaching and Learning Innovation applies evidence-based decision-making to develop implement and assess faculty programs that promote lifelong learning ensuring continuous improvement in pedagogy and the medical education curriculum. This work aims to enhance students potential for academic success in medical school. Reporting to the Associate Dean of Faculty key responsibilities for this position include: Provide leadership direction and strategic vision for pedagogical training initiatives for college faculty culminating in multi-year programmatic strategic plans. Provide strategy for the implementation and support of college-wide initiatives related to teaching and learning inclusive excellence faculty learning communities assessment of faculty teaching performance including alignment with Ohio Universitys Teaching Excellence Framework Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine ( HCOM ) student outcomes. Lead and supervise team members who develop deliver and support pedagogical training. Serve as a pedagogical trainer/mentor for 12 Medical Education Associates (MEAs) during their additional year of academic medicine immersion which includes teaching assessment facilitation tutoring and the completion of a scholarly project for publication or presentation. Build relationships across academic and administrative units at Ohio University representing the Office of Faculty Learning and Advancement ( OFLA ) on university committees and partnering with the Center of Teaching Learning and Assessment ( CTLA ) . Collaborate with the Senior Director of Faculty Affairs on research benchmarking report writing data collection and communication. Represent the Associate Dean of Faculty in interactions with university offices and external partners as directed. Occasionally travel in-state regionally or nationally for training and business-related meetings. Perform additional tasks as determined by the Associate Dean of Faculty. Primary Responsibilities: Develop manage and execute strategies for faculty development initiatives that enhance students academic success related to pedagogy in the Office of Faculty Learning and Advancement. Collaborate with and supervise the Faculty Learning Facilitator and Program and Engagement Manager to develop and implement programs and training for faculty including both academic non-clinical and clinical faculty as well as adjunct clinical faculty. Maintain knowledge of current trends in educational innovation teaching effectiveness and faculty development. Engage with stakeholders to share current trends and stimulate innovative approaches to teaching and learning. Lead the development of college-wide initiatives and policies related to faculty pedagogical development and medical education research. Oversee the design implementation assessment and evaluation of comprehensive faculty programming aimed at improving pedagogical practices including developing metrics to assess these programs impact on student outcomes to ensure continuous quality improvement ( CQI ). Develop key competencies for faculty involved in medical education tailored to their content expertise and teaching responsibilities including managing the training program for Professionalism Guides in collaboration with the Professionalism Committee. Collaborate with OFLA to create faculty learning and development needs assessments and provide data analysis to support continuous quality improvement of OFLA programs. Develop and lead a faculty pipeline program for physician-educators. Collaborate with faculty-focused units (e.g. Office of Medical Education Academic Departments Provosts Office) and committees (e.g. Curriculum Committee) to address various faculty teaching support needs. Provide confidential high-level counsel and serve as a trusted resource to the Associate Dean of Faculty on administrative matters. Work discreetly to resolve issues and mitigate risks. Develop and refine communications on behalf of the Associate Dean of Faculty. Support the development of the strategic vision for OFLA including resource allocation for teaching-focused faculty development activities in alignment with strategic priorities and policies of the office college and university. Assist in developing policies and procedures for the Office of Faculty Learning & Advancement including those related to teaching initiatives for Heritage College.
Minimum Qualifications
Masters degree 8 years of experience in faculty development supporting undergraduate and/or graduate medical education 3 years of supervisory experience
Preferred Qualifications
Doctoral degree (MD DO PhD) 5 years of project management experience
Work Schedule
Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Some after hours weekend and holiday work may be required. Flexplace and flextime arrangements may be available. This position offers the flexibility to be based at one of our campuses in Athens Dublin or Cleveland.
