Xavier University invites applications for a Visiting Faculty in the School of Education for the 2025-2026 academic position involves numerous responsibilities for the Reading/TESOL Programs and reports to the program director. The purpose of this position is to teach a variety of courses in Reading and/or TESOL. In addition the candidate will support these programs byproviding needed service such asmaintaining records of students including academic advising responsible for oversight and student disposition process in field placements in collaboration with the Field Coordinator maintain and develop relationships with area schools maintain state accreditation information and assist with enrollment and recruitment.
The position is renewable annually for up to three years pending continued sponsorship is not available for this position.
Responsibilities Include:
Teaching a variety of courses within the READING/TESOL undergraduate and graduate programs
Recruiting potential new undergraduate and graduate students for endorsement and masters degrees programs. The position involves learning a database system for maintaining student records and using this system to guide and support students throughout their programs and for retention in the programs.
Collaborating with the Field Coordinator for field experiences for students that may include the preparation of documentation for host schools and supervisors.
Maintaining and developing relationships with area schools including public and private for the Reading/TESOL programs.
Maintaining student records and data assuring that students are meeting program requirements and supporting national and state accreditation.
Reviewing and communicating with program director and administrative staff to ensure all requirements are complete for students in these programs.
Acting as liaison with schools to assist in recruiting and maintaining endorsement programs.
Required Qualifications:
Masters degree in Education Required; ABD or Doctorate Preferred
Current licensure or the ability to be licensed in Education within the first year of employment: existing Ohio licensure or the ability to transfer license to Ohio from another state
Reading Endorsement or Masters degree in Reading
TESOL Endorsement or Masters degree in TESOL
Teaching experience in Reading or TESOL
A minimum of 5 years of work experience in education with a minimum of 5 years of classroom experience as the teacher of record
Excellent computer skills including MS Office Excel and PowerPoint
Excellent organizational skills especially in managing paper and electronic files
Excellent oral written and interpersonal communication skills
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team within and among the School of Education.
Preference will be given to those who have collegiate teaching experience.
