Job Description

Salary:Currently $49638.36$92138.12 (DOE) plus SPED stipend still being negotiated for.

Insurance:Generous Health dental and vision contribution from the district currently up to $2202 (based upon family coverage) TBD for.

PERS Retirement:The district assumes and pays the 6% average employee contribution to the Oregon PERS system.

Schedule:190 Days 3 days new teacher inservice

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide researchbased specialized instruction to address the instructional goals and objectives contained within each students IEP.
  • Assess student progress towards objectives expectations and/or goals (e.g. behavioral motor development and communication skills academic needs vocational abilities etc.) for the purpose of providing feedback to students parents and administration.
  • Develop and implement annual Individualized Educational Program (IEP) plans for students to include: present levels of educational performance special education needs instructional goals and objectives and the special education and related services required to meet those goals.
  • Provides consultation to classroom teachers regarding classroom adaptions instructional modifications adaptive equipment behavior modification plans and other similar instructional interventions to meet the needs of students with disabilities.
  • Collaborate with instructional staff other school personnel parents and a variety of community resources for the purpose of improving the overall quality of student outcomes achieving established classroom objectives in support of the school improvement plan.
  • Schedule team meetings and works cooperatively with child study team members and others in developing instructional goals and strategies.
  • Prepare a variety of written materials (e.g. grades attendance anecdotal records etc.) for the purpose of documenting student progress and meeting mandated requirements.
  • Serve as primary contact for the parent.
  • Conduct special education evaluations and reevaluations in collaboration with district evaluation team.
  • Provide direction supervision and evaluation of educational assistants as directed.
  • Participates in and/or coordinates a variety of meetings (e.g. PLC IEP Department School) for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
  • Administer under supervision first aid and assistance to medically fragile children (e.g. tube feeding toileting diapering etc.) for the purpose of providing appropriate care for children as assigned.
  • Report incidents (e.g. fights suspected child abuse suspected substance abuse etc.) for the purpose of maintaining personal safety of students providing a positive learning environment and adhering to Education Code and school policies.
  • Comply with School Board policies and all state/federal rules and regulations.
  • Complete all district and state reporting requirements.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge:

  • Thorough knowledge of the principles practices and procedures of special education and specialty area.
  • Thorough knowledge of the principles and methodology of effective teaching of students with disabilities.
  • Thorough knowledge of school rules regulations and procedures; ability to establish and maintain standards of behavior.
  • Thorough knowledge of techniques in evaluation and assessment of learning and human development.
  • Thorough knowledge of behavior management and communication techniques.
  • Thorough knowledge of computer technology and other equipment used in the workplace as required by the position.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with children students parents staff administration and the general public.
  • Possess the physical ability to regularly attend work and fulfill the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Will adhere to the federal requirements of a drugfree workplace
  • Must hold a valid first aid card.
  • Will perform the duties as required by the Teachers Standards and Practices Commission (OARto 035).
  • Read understand and carry out oral and/or written instructions.
  • Will accurately transfer record and convey information materials and money as required by the position.
  • Must communicate clearly and appropriately in speech and in writing in accordance with educational standards.
  • Must complete all required special education forms and processes within specific time lines.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • The employee may work with groups of students and on a onetoone basis. Students include those who may be physically and mentally disabled learning disabled emotionally disturbed and culturally diverse. Supervision and instructional responsibilities require the employee to be able to stand for up to 45 consecutive minutes and move rapidly to intervene in situations where a students safety is being jeopardized. The supervision may also occur during times of inclement weather. The employee needs to be able to lift materials boxes or equipment weighing up to 30 pounds.
  • The employee must be tolerant yet assertive in order to communicate effectively in confrontational and emotional situations involving students and their parents/guardians. Confidentiality is a top priority for the person in this position.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Hold or qualify for an Oregon teaching license through Teacher Standards and Practices Commission with the proper endorsement/authorization and be considered highly qualified by the Oregon Department of Education.

  • Demonstrated ability to teach students to be successful learners through student teaching internship or temporary/regular teaching experience.

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSING:
Special Education Teaching Endorsement required.

Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification required.
