Jenks Public Schools Job Description

Position: Literacy Coach

Reports to: Principal

Supervises: None

Qualifications:

  1. Hold or be eligible for an Oklahoma teaching certificate.
  2. Have earned a Masters degree in Reading and Literacy (preferred).
  3. Meet all certification requirements including teaching area endorsement in the State of Oklahoma.
  4. Satisfy all district requirements with regard to physical health and citizenship.
  5. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Position Goal:

  1. To strengthen literacy curriculum and instruction assuring consistency and coherence across the school site and communication of district expectations/practices.
  2. To serve as a mentor and guide for teachers through coaching modeling researchbased practices and professional learning collaborations.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

Curriculum Development and Support

  1. Serve on district literacy curriculum committees.
  2. Support implementation of district literacy curriculum adoptions/programs through coplanning modeling and coteaching.
  3. Participate in literacy curriculum development when necessary.

Professional Learning

  1. Assist in the development/implementation of site professional development plans/processes.
  2. Implement peer coaching cycles to model/provide support for evidencebased literacy instructional practices.

Instructional Leadership

  1. Plan facilitate cofacilitate and/or participate in instructional meetings e.g. regular planning meetings with teachers data teams MTSS meetings.
  2. Meet with the principals on a regular basis for communication and planning.
  3. Coordinate Strong Readers Act process (training Intervention Plans communication train schedule and support for Reading Tutors).
  4. Facilitate formative and summative assessment processes.
  5. Perform such other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.

Employment Terms: Nine (9) months a year. Salary and work year to be established by the Board. Benefits as established by Board policy.

FLSA Qualification: Exempt

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Jenks Public Schools Board of Educations policy on Staff Evaluation (2.20) and by Oklahoma State Law.

Physical Demands:

Regular Requirements: Stand for extended periods; sit for extended periods; twist at the neck and trunk; bend at the waist; stoop kneel crouch; lift/move up to 20 pounds; handle objects and tools with hands; repetitive use of fingers and hands.

Occasional Requirements: Reach with hands and arms overhead above shoulder and horizontally; lift/move up to 40 pounds.

Visual Requirements: Close color peripheral depth perception ability to adjust focus.

Hearing/Speaking Requirements: Adequate to exchange information.
