The Department of Corrections Division of Institutions is recruiting for Office Assistant 2 for the Anchorage Correctional Complex located in Anchorage Alaska

What you will be doing:

This position is in the Property Section at the Anchorage Correctional Complex which housesinmates both sentenced and unsentenced. The role requires independent management of inmate property and financial accounts including accurate data entry handling large sums of cash and maintaining accountability through ACOMS. The incumbent also ensures inmates receive their belongings and funds upon release and communicate with them regarding any property or monetary concerns

The Working Environment You Can Expect:

This position operates within a team that includes Correctional Officers following the same shift schedule. The duty cycle consists of a 75hour rotation working one week on and one week off with either day or night shifts alternating every 13 weeks.

  • Computer Skills: Uses computers software applications databases and automated systems to accomplish work.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or the equivalent.
AND
One year of experience that includes clerical tasks such as greeting clients answering phones typing filing sorting mail entering data receiving payments making change or maintaining logs.

Substitution:
Education from an accredited college may substitute for the required experience (3 semester hours or 4 quarter hours equal one month of experience; 150 hours of vocation education equal one month of experience).

Special Note:
High school diploma equivalent means one of the following: 1) a G.E.D.; 2) completion of any basic adult education course equivalent to 480 class hours (16 weeks at 30 course hours per week); 3) acceptance in full standing by an accredited college or university; 4) highest grade of school completed plus an amount of paid or volunteer experience that totals 12 years and includes basic clerical tasks such as greeting clients answering phones typing filing sorting mail entering data receiving payments making change or maintaining logs.

Additional Required Information

DRIVER LICENSE REQUIREMENT:
Applicants must possess a valid drivers license. Proof of licensure will be required prior to reporting to duty.

PREA NOTIFICATION:
The Department of Corrections follows and maintains federal and state requirements standards including but not limited to Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) standards which apply to all public and private institutions that house adult or juvenile offenders. PREA standards preclude the department from hiring or promoting anyone who has engaged in or been convicted of any conduct which would violate PREA standards related to sexual assault including:
  • Sexual abuse in a prison jail lockup community confinement facility juvenile facility or other institution.
  • Convicted of engaging or attempting to engage in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force overt or implied threats of force or coercion or if the victim did not consent or was unable to consent or refuse; or
  • Has been civilly or administratively adjudicated to have engaged in the activity described above.
EDUCATION:
If postsecondary education is required to meet the minimum qualifications you must fill in the Education section of the application. If you have not obtained a degree please indicate the number of units completed. Copies of transcripts are required to verify educational credentials if used to meet the minimum qualifications for a position. Transcripts can be attached at the time of application or provided at the time of interview at the discretion of the hiring manager.

Please be aware this position requires the use of the Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN)/Alaska Corrections Offender Management System (ACOMS). A security clearance issued by the Department of Public Safety (DPS) is necessary to use APSIN/ACOMS. DPS will deny security clearance for any applicant who has been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor in this state or another jurisdiction or who may be a fugitive from justice. Additionally security clearance will be withdrawn if DPS discovers that material information was falsified or omitted at the time of the initial application for security clearance.
