Bone Density Technician operates dual energy xray absorptiometry (DXA) to perform scans of the lumbar spine proximal femur and/or forearm that measure the calcium content of bones and are utilized by physicians to screen for diagnose manage and treat osteoporosis and other metabolic diseases.
This is a parttime (0.5) position working variable hours Monday through Thursday out of Maternal Fetal Consultants in Edina.

Essential Functions:
- Performs bone density scans
- Coordinates patient clinical history with procedure documents information provides instructions to patient during treatment.
- Positions immobilizes and determines accurate technique exposure for patient during examination.
- Follows manufacturer protocol for operation of densitometry equipment to assure safe environment for procedures. Applies principles of radiation protection to minimize exposure to patients self and others.
- Assumes responsibility of physical and psychological needs of patients during scanning.
- Assists in maintaining records and patients chart by documenting patients treatment and response respecting confidentiality and established policy.
- Responsible for maintaining equipment and reports machinery malfunction.
- Gives input for equipment purchase and supply decisions.
- Participate in departments quality assessment and improvement plan.
- Assists in promotion and marketing of the bone densitometry program.
- Applies knowledge of radiation protection emergency protocols and procedures and proper equipment utilization to maximize safety in the work environment.
- Exercises technical judgment in order to obtain a computerized image of the tested area bone density measurements and a computergenerated comparison of the patients measurements with normal agespecific measurements.
- Accurately documents completed studies and prepares digital images to be exported in the EMR system.
- Prepares cleans and stocks work area with supplies.
- Assists with rooming function when not working xray to include comprehensive intake and vitals.
- Willing to take a phlebotomy course to assist clinic teams in collecting blood samples and order laboratory testing.
- Any and all other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Graduate of a certified Xray Technician/Operator Program.
- Must be certified by the State of MN as aa Medical XRay Operator and passed the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and/or a registered bone density Xray operator who passed the MN State Bone Density exam.
- Must demonstrate strong knowledge of anatomy and physiology radiographic positioning and proper application of radiographic principles.
- Knowledge of radiology equipment including safety hazards and standards when working with xray equipment.
- Experience with electronic medical records/HER and charting.
- Excellent customer services skills and ability to work efficiently with busy physician schedules.

Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work independently at least 90% of the time.
- Frequent lift up to 35 lbs. occasional lift up to 50 lbs.
- Push/pull occasionally up to 50 lbs. or persons in wheelchairs weighing up to 300 lbs.
- Frequent patient positioning including bending stooping squatting twisting & reaching.
