Job Description

Responsibilities

Peraton is seeking aSystems Engineer to join our team of qualified diverse individuals. The ideal candidate will perform enterprise and local level LAN/WAN monitoring and propose enhancements that increase performance/reduce costs. This individual will be expected to work independently or semiindependently with a minimum of guidance or direction. This role is pivotal in driving our efforts in one or more phases of systems engineering critical to the USPS mission.

  • Required to be local to Raleigh NC area. An onsite presence is required for this position.
  • Must be open to 10% travel.

Day to Day Work Responsibilities:

  • Perform duties in support of the mission as directed by USPS Management.
  • Assists in the installation and maintenance of network communications.
  • Configures various network devices and services.
  • Troubleshoots the network issues within established policies procedures standards and compliance items of the USPS.
  • Monitors network hardware operations to ensure properly set configuration options.
  • Performs cost/benefit studies of network configuration and recommends enhancements.
  • Advises network users of hardware requirements configurations and limitations.
  • Coordinates installation activities by interfacing with hardware and software planners.
  • Instruct operations personnel on the use of new equipment.
  • Coordinates repair of vendorowned equipment.
  • Maintains contact with vendors during problem restorations and advises customers and management of restoration status.
  • Interfaces with users during the support process.
  • May assist with strategic or tactical planning to justify market or manage the technology needed for successful business operations.
  • Works on highvisibility or mission critical aspects of a given program and performs all functional duties independently.
  • Oversee the efforts of direct reporting resources and/or be responsible for the efforts of all staff assigned to a specific job.
  • Implement and maintain LAN configurations protocols and inventory.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve LAN connectivity issues including but not limited to switches routers and cabling.
  • Document troubleshooting steps and solutions for future reference.
  • Assist Tier 1 support in diagnosing and resolving LANrelated problems.
  • Provide Tier 2 support for LANrelated incidents and service requests escalated from Tier 1.
  • Collaborate with Tier 3 LAN Engineers for complex issue resolution.
  • Typically performs all functional duties independently.
  • May assists network architecture design feasibility and cost studies.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree with 5 years experience or Associates degree and 7 years experience or HS diploma/equivalent and 9 years experience.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
  • U.S Citizenship or Green Card holder required.
    • Residing in the U.S for the past five years with no more than 6 months travel outside the U.S. during this time frame.
    • Military Service excluded. (Exception does not include military family members)
  • Must have knowledge of Internet computer routers switches firewall etc.
  • Experience providing Service Now Tier 2 support to mitigate Service Tickets Issues/Outages/End User support needs.
  • Experience in LAN support and Understanding of LAN security standards and methodologies..
  • Proficiency in LAN protocols and technologies (e.g. TCP/IP VLANs Spanning Tree Protocol).
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
  • Working knowledge of Cisco Cisco Meraki HP Aruba and Juniper technologies.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with IP Address Management Systems to include voice VLAN sizing.
  • Experience performing switch acceptance for new field sites.
  • Experience determining whether additional measures are required beyond those provided by the infrastructure tools being deployed.
  • Experience with other wireless solutions such as Cisco Meraki HPE Aruba Juniper Mist and Fortinet.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a team mindset.
  • Ability to work independently and thrive in a fastpaced rapidly changing environment.
