Core Requirements:
- Under general supervision provides special education services to students identified as disabled in accordance with state and federal regulations. Work involves developing and implementing the Individual Education Program in classroom settings that are compatible with the students age and developmental level.
- The EC teacher is responsible for developing lesson plans adapting materials and designing activities to assist EC students develop appropriate academic behavioral and social skills and to meet their IEP goals.
- The teacher is responsible for monitoring students progress and for maintaining EC records in compliance with state and federal guidelines.
- Reports to the principal.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Develops and implements an instructional plan which is compatible with the school and systemwide curricular goals and the students Individual Education Program.
- Is responsible for the development of Individual Education Programs (IEP) for students with disabilities; implements the IEP; and uses diagnostic information obtained from tests and other assessment procedures to update IEPs as needed. Provides direct special education instruction to identified students.
- Employs a variety of teaching methods to meet student needs. Implementation of these methods may require the adaptation or development of materials.
- Monitors student behavior; maintains discipline in the classroom; deescalates inappropriate behaviors; teaches students appropriate behavioral strategies; restrains students when necessary; records and reports restrains. Assists disabled students with their personal and selfhelp needs such as eating toileting and other essential tasks that the students are not able to perform by themselves.
- Communicates with parents regarding their childrens educational progress via periodic written progress reports. Acts as a case coordinator for assigned students; consults with community caregivers school support professionals and parents to better understand and meet student needs.
- Maintains student records in accordance with North Carolinas Procedures Governing Programs and Services for Children with Disabilities; and complies with state and federal education statutes.
- Treats all students in a fair and equitable manner interacts effectively with students coworkers parents and community.
- Follows a plan for professional development and demonstrates evidence of growth.
Classroom Management
- Establish and maintain high standards of student behavior needed to achieve optimal learning atmosphere in the classroom.
- Provide a functional and attractive environment in the classroom conducive for learning and aligned to the curriculum.
- Plan and coordinate the work of aides teacher assistants parents and other paraprofessionals as appropriate.
Assessment
- Administer assessments in a variety of forms (formative summative standardized etc.) in accordance with the charters testing programs.
- Evaluate students academic and social growth keep appropriate records prepare student reports and communicate with parents regarding their childs progress.
Additional Responsibilities
- Communicate with parents administration colleagues in a timely consistent manner.
- Actively participate in a professional learning community.
- Supervise students in and out of classroom activities during the assigned working day.
- Share in the sponsorship of student activities and participate in faculty committees as agreed upon.
- Attend all school functions as required by school administrators.

Job Qualification
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge Skills and Abilities):
- Must possess a Bachelors or Masters degree in education or a related field. Must be eligible or possess North Carolina Professional License or Postgraduate Professional License with appropriate endorsement to teach Exceptional Children. Must possess the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students staff parents & the public.
Technical Skills:
- Ability to use an assortment of equipment and classroom tools such as Powerschool Canvas Google and assistive technology
- Comfort with or ability to learn Windows 10 OS Smart Notebook and Smart Board Document Camera Lenovo Laptops iPads and Google Apps for Education
