Position Summary

This position is general labor in nature. Under the supervision of the Maintenance Manager Maintenance Laborers assist Maintenance Technicians in various maintenance related tasks. In the absence of the Maintenance Manager Maintenance Laborers may receive instruction from the Maintenance Technicians or the Director of Operations.

This role pays an hourly rate of $18.00.

About the Venue

The Greater Richmond Convention Center is the largest meeting and exhibition venue in the Commonwealth of Virginia. With 178158 square feet of contiguous exhibit space a 30550 squarefoot Grand Ballroom and 50000 square feet of additional meeting/banquet space the GRCC is wellpositioned to host a variety of events from small meetings to large trade shows and conventions. Situated along the I95 corridor the GRCC lies within a 500 mile radius of one half of the U.S. population. The Richmond Region is an affordable market in Central Virginia with the Blue Ridge Mountains to the north the Atlantic Ocean to the south Washington D.C. to the east and North Carolina to the west.

Responsibilities

  • Skilled and semiskilled tasks in the maintenance of the facility and equipment
  • Work from general instructions and specifications with minimal supervision
  • Operate a wide variety of equipment used in the maintenance of the facility such as saws drills torches sanders cutters grinders and other maintenance equipment
  • Drive vans pickup trucks forklifts highlifts floor scrubbers and other vehicles as required
  • Grasp hold bend and twist a wide range of tools equipment and materials
  • Assist in installing and repairing electrical wiring fixtures and related equipment mixing and matching paints stains and painting
  • Assist in installing maintaining and repairing pipes valves faucets sinks and other plumbing facilities; repair and maintenance of the facility to include chairs tables doors windows and other articles and fixtures
  • Assist in the operation maintenance and repair of HVAC equipment repair and maintenance of various other tools and equipment
  • Clean and organize work sites as directed
  • Communicate clearly and concisely in the English language both orally and in writing
  • Establish and maintain cooperativeworking relationships with those contacted in the course of work
  • Perform other duties as required

Qualifications

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES:

  • Proper use and maintenance of hand and power tools related to job functions
  • Applicable safety rules and procedures
  • Basic computer applications including MS Office email work order systems etc
  • Customer Service practices

ABILITY TO:

  • Perform skilled and semiskilled tasks in the maintenance of the facility and equipment
  • Work from general instructions and specifications as well as electronic work order systems with minimal supervision
  • Use computers tablets or cell phone to complete Company mandated training and program participation
  • Operate a wide variety of equipment used in the maintenance of the facility such as saws drills torches sanders cutters grinders and other maintenance equipment
  • Drive vans pickup trucks forklifts highlifts floor scrubbers and other vehicles as required
  • Grasp hold bend and twist a wide range of tools equipment and materials
  • Work effectively in a serviceoriented environment subject to frequently changing priorities
  • Communicate clearly and concisely in the English language both orally and in writing using electronic email applications
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff contractors and facility users
  • Work a flexible schedule including early mornings days evenings overnight weekends holidays extended (long) workdays and extended numbers of days

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience in general labor
  • Education / Training:
  • High school diploma or equivalent GED
  • Licenses or Certificates:
  • Possession of or ability to obtain a current CPR certificate
  • Possession of or ability to obtain a Virginia drivers license
  • Possession of or ability to obtain an OSHA 10 hour General Industry certification
  • Possession of or ability to obtain an OSHA 10 hour General Industry certification
