Senior Linux Engineer

Are you ready to operate our Linux environment in six Datacenters with one thousand systems storing 7 million gigabyte in Sweden Germany & the Netherlands At Vattenfall were seeking a Senior Linux Engineer who is passionate about contributing to a sustainable energy future. This role offers you the opportunity to drive innovation and efficiency within our IT systems playing a crucial part in a stable and secure IT operations.  

You will join our international team of Linux Engineers operating mainly our Red Hat on premise environment. Together with the team you will drive complex changes actively supports new implementations and care for service improvement through problem management. 

We are transitioning towards a software defined data centre; operating Linux to the cloud and automating our solutions. A journey we would like you to actively be part of! 

Your main responsibilities: 

The Operational Engineer (Linux) is responsible for all infrastructure onpremise operations coassist in supporting Linux in the Cloud and work on: 

• Daily Maintenance of our Linux systems incl. participation in oncall and daily shifts. 
• Manage operational incidents. 
• Plan coordinate and work on changes based on incidents or improvements. 
• Automation of our Linux operations. 
• Act as a point of contact for all technical questions regarding the Linux related services. 
• Coordinate and execute activities for lifecycle management (planning migrations installation upgrade and decommission). 
• Low level design of Linux solutions based on application specific requirements. 
• Development and maintenance of technical documentation. 
• Lead small size initiatives. 
• Participate in projects as a Linux specialist. 
• Join improvement initiatives in the Linux area together with the team. 
• Collaborate with other departments to ensure that IT operations are aligned with organisational goals and objectives. 

Qualifications :

You are driven by technical and operational challenges and have a strong desire to enable your team to consistently improve and deliver efficient stable compliant and secure services. 

You enjoy leading complex projects and you are able to plan your own work. You give advice for improvements that lead to a permanent solution of incidents or complex customer questions.   

Furthermore you bring: 

• Bachelors degree in a related field (or equivalent work experience). 
• More than 7 years of experience in Linux administration.  
• Automation skills (Ansible) 
• Experience with Bash scripting and/or Perl/Python scripting 
• Very good knowledge of data centre related solutions and technologies. 
• Knowledge in IT Security. 
• Strong troubleshooting skills and you enjoy solving complex problems 
• Motivating energizing and driving team performance brings you satisfaction. 
• You have a positive mindset towards others 
• Ability to manage multiple assignments projects and priorities in a fastpaced environment. 
• Fluency in English both written and verbal.  

Beneficial requirements 

• Certifications in Linux and/or other technologies as VMware Cloud Foundation Windows. 
• Knowledge of  Devops ITIL and/or Project Management.
