Database Staff Software Engineer

We are looking for talented curious and energetic Software Engineers who embrace solving complex challenges on a global scale.  As a Visa Software Engineer you will be an integral part of a crossfunctional development team inventing designing building and testing software products that reach a truly global customer base. The Work itself: 

• Design code and systems that touch 40% of the world population while influencing Visas internal standards for scalability security and reusability 
• Collaborate crossfunctionally to create design artifacts and develop bestinclass software solutions for multiple Visa technical offerings 
• Actively contribute to product quality improvements value added service technology and new business flows in diverse agile squads 
• Develop robust and scalable products intended for a myriad of customers including enduser merchants b2b and business to government solutions  Leverage innovative technologies to build the next generation of Payment Services Transaction Platforms RealTime Payments and Buy Now Pay Later Technology 
• Opportunities to make a difference on a global or local scale through mentorship and continued learning opportunities 

Essential Functions:

• Develops enhancements and modifications to existing database systems and develops extensible code that complies with design specifications and meets security best practices 
• Implements automation to improve effectiveness and efficiencies of database systems and tools and supports development and implementation of new automation
• Engages with product engineering teams and product owners  during code/design reviews regular meetings oncall rotations and incident responses throughout product development and operations cycles.
• Leverages advanced knowledge of database systems/platforms and telemetry analyses to propose isolated improvements in code processes and designs to more effectively deliver on customer/business objectives

**We do not expect that any single candidate would fulfill all of these characteristics. For instance we have awesome team members who are really focused on building scalable systems but didnt work with payments technology or web applications before joining Visa. 

This is a hybrid position. Expectation of days in office will be confirmed by your Hiring Manager.

Qualifications :

Basic Qualifications:

• Masters degree in Math Science Engineering or Computer Science Information Systems or related field AND minimum three (3) years of experience in a directly related field OR
• Bachelors degree in Math Science Engineering or Computer Science Information Systems or related field AND minimum five (5) years of experience in a directly related field.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of and ability to develop backend (e.g. Python Java C PHP) code in support of package and product development. This includes the extension of capabilities of packages and products.
• The ability to develop and utilize Application Program Interfaces (APIs) a set of routines protocols and tools for building software applications that specify how software components should interact and are used when programming graphical user interface (GUI) components. An API may be for a webbased system operating system database system computer hardware or software library.
• Knowledge of and the ability to use database software (e.g. applications webbased applications information systems) to maintain modify and output data.
• Knowledge of systems integration process in which separately produced components or subsystems are combined and problems in their interactions are addressed.
• Knowledge of data structures which consist of data organization management and storage formats that enable efficient access and modifications. This includes a collection of data values the relationships among them and the functions or operations that can be applied to the data.
