Mainframe Operations Engineer (z Architecture and F5 VPN Solutions)

Job Summary

Synechron is seeking a skilled Mainframe Operations Engineer to join our team responsible for managing and optimizing mainframe operations. This role is integral to ensuring the reliability and efficiency of our systems and applications contributing to the organizations strategic objectives. The Mainframe Operations Engineer will play a key role in identifying system bottlenecks implementing changes and maintaining high operational standards.

Software Requirements

• Required Software Skills:

  • Intermediate knowledge of z architecture hardware TSO/ISPF SDSF CICS DB2 and IMS.
  • Proficiency in scheduling within ControlM Workload Automation.
  • Understanding of Windows Citrix Exchange O365 management.

• Preferred Software Skills:

  • Experience with VMWare SAN/NAS SharePoint DHCP/DNS.
  • Expertise in F5 VPN solutions.

Overall Responsibilities

• Identify system and scheduling bottlenecks and respond or escalate as necessary.
• Implement noncritical changes and manage the change process effectively.
• Collaborate with crossfunctional teams to understand the implications of changes to systems and batch applications.
• Maintain and optimize mainframe operations to support business objectives.
• Ensure compliance with operational standards and best practices.

Technical Skills (By Category)

• Programming Languages:

  • Preferred: Basic scripting knowledge for automation tasks.

• Databases/Data Management:

  • Essential: Intermediate knowledge of DB2 and IMS database systems.

• Cloud Technologies:

  • Preferred: Experience with cloud management tools such as O365.

• Frameworks and Libraries:

  • Essential: Familiarity with TSO/ISPF and SDSF frameworks.

• Development Tools and Methodologies:

  • Required: Experience with ControlM Workload Automation.

• Security Protocols:

  • Essential: Expertise in VPN technologies specifically F5.

Experience Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in mainframe operations or a related field.
• Domainspecific experience in managing and optimizing mainframe systems.
• Familiarity with industry best practices in system operations and automation.

• Monitor and manage system operations identifying and resolving issues proactively.
• Collaborate with technical teams and stakeholders to discuss system performance and improvements.
• Deliver regular updates and reports on system status and operational changes.

Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Computer Science Information Technology or a related field.
• Relevant certifications in mainframe operations or system management are preferred.
