TITLE: Recreation Worker (Canada Summer Jobs)

RESONSIBLE TO:Supervisor

LOCATION:Cookstown

JOB NUMBER: REC0425T

POSTED ON: April 30th 2025


POSITION TYPE: FullTime Temporary (8 weeks with possible 4 week extension)

HOURS OF WORK: 35hours per week

COMPENSATION: $20.41 per hour

EFFECTIVE DATE:June 2nd 2025

REASON FOR RECRUITMENT: New Position


INTRODUCTION:

New Path Youth and Family Services is an accredited childrens mental health agency providing a range of compassionate innovative and accessible services for children youth and their families throughout Simcoe County. New Path respectfully acknowledges we are situated on the traditional land of the Anishnaabeg people which include the Odawa Ojibwe and Pottawatomi Nations collectively known as the Three Fires Confederacy.


PURPOSE OF POSTION:

Engage youth (ages 1217) in the Livein Treatment Program to develop plan and implement a variety of recreational activities that promote wellbeing and life skill development.


JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Collaborate with youth to assess needs and goals related to recreational activities.
  2. Plan organize promote and facilitate a wide range of inclusive recreational programs.
  3. Seek regular feedback from youth to continuously improve programs.
  4. Collect evaluate and provide data for reports.
  5. Assist client(s) in making referrals to community resources as needed.
  6. Attend recreation meetings and coordinate with staff to maximize participation in programs.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. PostSecondary Education in Child & Youth Worker Therapeutic Recreation Psychology or Social Work program; completed or in process.
  2. Experience working with youth in a recreational setting.
  3. Must be between 15 and 30 years of age at start of employment and be able to work in Canada. Must meet other Canada Summer Jobs requirements.
  4. Lifeguard Certification or First Aid/CPR certification is an asset.

  4. Takes personal responsibility for enhancing individual and team performance by promoting cooperation and commitment.
  5. Demonstrates strong engagement skills using a strengthsbased approach and partners with client/family in treatment planning goal setting and anticipated outcomes.
  6. Recognizes initiates and adapts to changing conditions and situations in the workplace.
  7. Demonstrates awareness for the backgrounds values beliefs and traditions of staff clients families and communities we serve.
  8. Continuously assesses and challenges assumptions personal unconcious bias and commits to understanding diverse perspectives experiences and their intersectionality.
  9. Commits to ongoing training to build the knowledge awareness and skills that contribute to creating a culturally safe environment for staff clients and families.
  10. Competency and effective use of database and Microsoft Office systems.
  11. Confident articulate and professional when communicating verbally and in writing.
  12. French language is an asset.
