Conservation Technician - Vermilion River Reservation

Under the direction of the Park Manager the Natural Resource Conservation Technician:

1. Assists in the implementation of the Park Districts natural resource management program.
2. Assists with wetland maintenance invasive plant control and field mowing.
3. Assists the prescribedburn crew.
4. Performs a wide range of general maintenance repair and construction activities while maintaining and improving the Park Districts resources and facilities.
5. Leads work crews assists with project planning and monitors Park District grounds as assigned.
6. Is courteous and professional in working with Park District staff and the public.
7. Performs related duties as apparent or assigned.

Education / Experience: Completion of secondary education (high school or GED) and two years of college in the field of Natural Resources or a related field preferred. At least two years experience in the field of natural resources/parks or related field experience in skilled or semiskilled maintenance and repair or construction/heavy equipment operation. Experience directing others assigning work orders scheduling and purchasing. Must have working knowledge of local flora and fauna.

Language Skills: Ability to communicate verbally and in writing with coworkers supervisors the general public local law enforcement agencies community/citizen groups other public agencies etc. Ability to prepare meaningful concise and accurate reports; establish effective working relationships as supervisor of the work unit; ability to use a twoway radio.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate fractions decimals and percentages.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to recognize unusual or threatening conditions and take appropriate action; apply management principles to solve practical everyday work problems; ability to define problems collect data and draw valid conclusions.

Licenses Registrations: Possession of a valid Ohio drivers license insurable by the park districts insurance carrier and the ability to conform to the driving standards policy as approved by the Board of Park Commissioners. May be required to obtain a valid Ohio commercial drivers license of the appropriate class and with the appropriate endorsement(s). Must obtain a pesticide applicators license within the first year of employment.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to walk stand talk or hear; operate a twoway radio and motorized equipment; sit; work with hands; lift; drive park vehicles Cushmans and golf carts etc. The employee is frequently required to use their hands to complete reports use personal computers etc.

Work Environment: While performing the regular duties of this job the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions. The employee spends a portion of his/her time in the shop and/or office. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Additional Information: Knowledge of safety practices and procedures building and grounds maintenance landscaping and horticulture department policies and procedures management budgeting inventory control and public relations. Ability to maintain working relationships with coworkers supervisors the general public local law enforcement agencies other public agencies etc. Candidate must satisfactorily complete a background investigation.
