Job Description

Role Purpose

The CNC Setter will be responsible for programming setting up and operating CNC machines using both manual G & M code programming and Edgecam software. This role requires strong handson machining expertise accuracy and the ability to work independently within a precision engineering environment.


Key Responsibilities

Programming & Setup

  • Write and modify G & M code programs manually to suit specific production needs.
  • Use Edgecam software to generate CNC programs where required.
  • Set up CNC machinery including tooling fixtures and zero points for production runs.

Machining Operations

  • Operate CNC mills and lathes to produce highprecision components.
  • Adjust offsets and tooling during production for dimensional accuracy.
  • Conduct firstoff and inprocess inspections using precision measurement tools.

Maintenance & Optimization

  • Monitor machine performance and report faults or maintenance needs.
  • Continuously improve setup and production efficiency.
  • Maintain clean and organized workstations in line with safety standards.


Requirements

Qualifications & Experience

  • Relevant technical trade qualification or CNC Machining Certification
  • Strong experience in manual G & M code programming
  • Proficiency with Edgecam or similar CAD/CAM software
  • 3 years of CNC setting and programming experience in a precision engineering environment
  • Familiarity with Fanuc Siemens or Haas control systems

Working Environment

  • PPE use and compliance with safety protocols is mandatory


Key Responsibilities Tooling Design & Manufacturing Manufacture, modify, and assemble precision jigs, tools, and dies for CNC machining. Interpret technical drawings, CAD files, and specifications to create accurate tooling components. CNC Machining Support Collaborate with CNC operators and engineers to ensure tooling compatibility with machinery. Assist in programming setups, calibrations, and fine-tuning for improved cycle times and precision. Maintenance & Repairs Conduct routine maintenance and timely repairs of tooling to avoid production interruptions. Diagnose tooling issues, wear patterns, and suggest improvement modifications. Quality Assurance Ensure tools and dies meet dimensional accuracy and tolerances as per project requirements. Document inspections, maintain quality records, and participate in continuous improvement initiatives.

Education

Red Seal Trade Certification: Jig, Tool & Die Maker Minimum 3-5 years experience in a CNC machining environment Proficient in reading and interpreting engineering and CAD drawings Hands-on experience with precision measuring tools, machining processes, and toolroom equipment Familiarity with CNC lathes, mills, and EDM machines is advantageous
