8:00 a.m. 4:30 p.m. Monday Friday some evenings and weekends may be required

Job Summary:

The Technical Director for the Randy Owen Center within the College of Arts Humanities and Sciences is responsible for executing all technical aspectsaudio lighting and stage operationsas well as the coordination of related technical elements throughout productions presented and acts as the subject matter expert for lighting of productions overseeing equipment work areas and a safe working environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervises and actively participates in the installation and operating of all sound and projection systems. This includes: setting up and ringing out a live and/or reinforcement audio system with a full complement of wired and wireless microphones stage and inear monitors direct inputs outboard gear assisting with back line setup and striking of all equipment for each event.
  • Supervises and actively participates in the installation and of lighting for performances including preparing hanging circuiting programming and focusing stage lighting fixtures as well as striking all lighting equipment for each performance and event. Lighting fixtures may include conventional LED moving fixtures and others.
  • Responsible for overseeing showspecific rigging as well as maintaining stage equipment and work areas. This includes automated and manual rigging systems dance flooring installation riser systems chain motor operation and maintenance and acoustic cloud/drapes/shell adjustment/installation.
  • Collaborates with visiting workforce when required. Interpret artist specifications updating and questioning technical components and seeking external expertise when necessary.
  • Reviews interprets and executes respective technical requests of user groups and presents written estimates of cost of labor and materials for events to supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Creates and updates the respective operational systems and specifications for the facility. Manages inventory storage repair and preventative maintenance of all related tools and equipment. Updates software and hardware needs in keeping with ongoing current standards for performing arts events. Provide regular updates to the Executive Director on the areas of responsibility.
  • Determines the necessary technical supports necessary for events and performances presented to the facility in advance of production dates to be communicated deployed and scheduled in order to assemble the team needed to see through with the production.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree with emphasis in theatre design/technology
  • Five 5 years of Technical Direction experience in professional theatrical or performing arts center organizations
  • The ability to lift and carry materials weighing between 50 100 pounds on a daily basis is required.
