Job Description

OMEC Migrant IMAGE Teacher

Reports To: OMEC Director

Job Objective:

Meet the migrant students at the childs home or a designated meeting place to provide individualized instruction to help migrant children achieve the performance targets that the State has adopted for all children in reading math high school graduation reducing school dropouts school readiness and any other performance target that the State has identified for migrant children.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Valid Ohio State Board of Education teaching license (any field/area).
  • Bilingual proficiency in English/Spanish is preferred. Additional language skills are advantageous.
  • Ability to interact comfortably/confidently with the migrant families and students
  • Available to work a nontraditional schedule and irregular hours when required
  • Displays flexibility reliability selfdiscipline and a willingness to take on challenging tasks.
  • Documents/maintains a record free of criminal violations that prohibit public school employment.
  • Effective communication problemsolving and timemanagement skills
  • Embodies high ethical standards/integrity. Accepts responsibility for personal decisions/conduct.

Note: Employees must obtain training and maintain skills to fulfill compliance requirements applicable to the position as required by board policy and state/federal law.

Essential Functions:

  1. Performs Educational services in an itinerant setting to improve migrant student participation and achievement.
    • Drives to familys residence (home shelter migrant camp etc. to deliver instructional services to migrant students eligible for the Title IC migrant education program.
    • Plans organizes and provides instruction around the Core Curriculum Content Standards and Ohio Learning Standards as outlined in Ohios Title IC Service Delivery.
    • Plan using the tools and materials provided by the Ohio Migrant Education Center (OMEC).
    • Develops and delivers lesson plans utilizing a broad range of differentiated instructional techniques and strategies addressing all aspects of communication that develop each students ability to read write speak and listen in content areas at levels that ensure learners meet or exceed expected targets.
    • Administers academic and language assessments for the purpose of evaluating students progress in meeting academic learning targets and progress in language acquisition.
    • Assists high school migrant students needing secondary credit recovery using the Apex virtual recovery tool or similar program the student may already be using.
    • Maintains complete and accurate student records including evidence of academic growth and progress.
    • Submits all student records and academic information to OMEC staff by their designated deadline.
    • Properly uses electronic data systems like the Migrant Student Information eXchange (MSIX) to access students demographic and course history information.
    • Implements technology when appropriate to enhance the students learning experience and improve opportunities for academic growth.
    • Provides a nurturing supportive and positive learning environment with high expectations that encourage student responsibility enhance motivation and incorporate challenging instructional strategies.
    • Incorporates parent involvement by: offering parent training on ways to support their childs education at home teaching parents the importance of reading to their children daily and providing parents appropriate resources and materials to play an active role in their childs education.
    • Supervises IMAGE paraprofessional staff if assigned. Plans lessons delegates teaching responsibilities and monitors students educational progress at all levels.
    • Attends the required inperson summer IMAGE training.
    • Performs all other duties as assigned.

    • Refers administrative procedure and policy questions to an appropriate administrator.
    • Seeks clarification when directives are unclear.
    • Resolves issues tactfully. Uses active listening/problemsolving techniques. Respects diversity.

4. Pursues opportunities to enhance personal performance.

    • Keeps current with professional standards associated with work duties.
    • Updates personal skills as needed to effectively utilize taskappropriate technology.

5. Keeps current with emergency management plan procedures.

    • Protects program property. Takes precautions to prevent the loss of equipment and supplies.
    • Take action to address harassment and /or aggressive behavior. Complies with all legal statutes when dealing with discrimination inappropriate behavior or suspected child abuse/neglect.
    • Upholds high standards for proper conduct. Implements effective pupil management procedures. Uses positive behavioral support techniques to address disruptive student behavior.

6. Performs other specific jobrelated duties as directed.

Performance Evaluation:

Employee performance is evaluated according to applicable law board policies contractual agreements and service center administrative procedures.
