This is a parttime 2 days per week) permanent position on Crick Terms and Conditions of employment.
About the role
The Glasswash team will collect clean sterilise and restock thousands of items of scientific glassware used in research on a monthly basis.
Reporting to one of the Glasswash Supervisors your role will involve working closely with other members of the Glasswash and Media Preparation team and with scientists and laboratory managers within your areas of responsibility.
What you will be doing
Every day more than 4000 items of laboratory glassware are expected to pass through the Cricks central Glasswash section for cleaning and sterilisation.
As a Glasswash Technician you will be responsible for:
Collecting used glassware from laboratories in a safe and efficient manner
Cleaning and sterilisation of glassware
Preparation of sterile research materials (e.g. Eppendorf tubes Pasteur pipettes)
Restocking laboratory supply cupboards
Ad Hoc sterilisation of large laboratory items (e.g. incubator racks)
Liaising with research staff over supply levels and quality of clean glass
Operating in compliance with Health & Safety requirements
Maintaining good operational state of key equipment and the working environment
Assisting the Media Preparation team as required
About you
You will bring

Basic literacy and numeracy (e.g. GCSE Maths and English or equivalent)
Ability to follow Standard Operating Procedures

Ability to prioritise and manage own time
Ability to cover significant distances throughout the building over the
course of the day and to perform some moderate lifting/manual handling
tasks
Desirable
Previous experience in a scientific or healthcare setting
Awareness of laboratory hazards
Familiarity with sterilisation equipment (ovens autoclaves)
