Job Description

POSITION TITLE:

Jr. High Head Boys Basketball Coach

FLSA:

Exempt

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must hold proper state license

REPORTS TO:

Principal/Athletic Director

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among the students forwhomhe or she is responsible.
  2. Observe and evaluate students performance behavior social development and physical health.
  3. Prepare materials and classrooms for class activities.
  4. Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students varying needs and interests.
  5. Establish clear objectives for all lessons units and projects and communicate those objectives tostudents.
  6. Prepare administer and grade tests and assignments in order to evaluate students progress.
  7. Meet with parents and guardians to discuss their childrens progress.
  8. Maintain accurate and complete student records as required by laws district policies andadministrative regulations.
  9. Meet with other professionals to discuss individual students needs and progress.
  10. Use computers audiovisual aids and other equipment and materials to supplement presentations.
  11. Collaborate with other teachers and administrators in the development evaluation and revision ofschool programs.
  12. Prepare reports on students and activities as required by administration.
  13. Attend professional meetings educational conferences and teacher training workshops in order tomaintain and improve professional competence.
  14. Attend staff meetings and serve on committees as required.

COACHING

ESSENTIAL OR REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Demonstrate proper sportsmanship and respect for players officials opponents fans and other coaches.
  2. Maintain good public relations with media boosters parents officials players fans etc.
  3. Conduct an informational meeting with parents prior to the season.
  4. Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students parents staff and school administration.
  5. Serve as a positive role model for students coaching staff and the community.
  6. Demonstrate knowledge of and ability to implement effective coaching theory strategies and techniques appropriate for junior high school athletes.
  7. Effectivelymotivate student athletes to participate and sustain their interests in the program.
  8. Work effectively with student athletes of varying abilities socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds to instill commitment discipline and teamwork.
  9. Demonstrate knowledge of and adhere to and keep abreast of rules and regulations set forth by Arkansas Activities Association.
  10. Ability to supervise organize and motivate a coaching staff at all levels.
  11. Assume responsibility for inventory selection and care of equipment.
  12. Assume responsibility for proper care of the school facilities.
  13. Supervise all students under his or her care.
  14. Report injuries to administration in a timely manner.
  15. Build and sustain a successful program that is widely supported and respected by the Searcy Public School District and community at large.

OTHER JOB DUTIES:

  1. Assist the Athletic Director in developing game schedules practice schedules facilities use transportation needs and the program budget.
  2. Requisition supplies materials and equipment as needed.
  3. Provide game results to media; keep season and gamebygame statistics and records; provide statistical reports to the Athletic Director as needed and/or requested.
  4. Stay abreast of students academic eligibility and work with teachers and administration to help keep students eligible.
  5. Assist the Athletic Director in selecting assistant coaches.
  6. Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or Athletic Director.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. To be an effective educator in the classroom and on the field.
  2. To assist in maintaining high academic standards for all students.
  3. To direct theathletic program in all phases at a high level of professionalism and enthusiasm.
  4. To work cooperatively with otherathletic coaches in order to operate a wellbalanced athletic program.
  5. To foster among the participants and spectators an appreciation of the values of athletics a desire to win an attitude of good sportsmanship and a sense of pride in self team school and community.
