The Opportunity:

Mill River Union High School/Middle School is looking for an enthusiastic educator to teach four middle school social studies classes as part of our dynamic and supportive middle school team. This is a parttime 0.6 FTE) position with the potential to grow in future depending on student needs and staffing. The ideal candidate brings a passion for social studies a creative approach to studentcentered instruction and a commitment to engaging young learners in meaningful relevant learning experiences.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

  • Content Expertise: Strong knowledge of social studies content and pedagogy especially for middle grades.
  • Commitment to Student Success: Dedication to improving outcomes for all learners.
  • Differentiation Skills: Ability to adjust instruction and assessment to meet diverse student needs and learning styles.
  • Team Collaboration: Desire to work collaboratively with the middle school team including interdisciplinary planning.
  • RelationshipBuilding: Strong rapport with students and colleagues and the ability to foster a safe respectful classroom environment.
  • ProficiencyBased Learning: Familiarity with and commitment to proficiencybased learning and assessment.
  • Certification (or eligibility for certification) in Middle Grades or Secondary Social Studies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Teach four sections of middle school social studies.
  • Develop engaging relevant curriculum aligned to standards and middle school team goals.
  • Foster a classroom culture that is inclusive respectful and conducive to learning.
  • Set and maintain clear behavioral and academic expectations.
  • Assess student progress regularly and maintain accurate records.
  • Communicate effectively with students families and colleagues.
  • Participate in team meetings professional development and collaborative planning.
  • Design instruction that supports diverse learners and promotes critical thinking and civic engagement.
