Job Description

Department:StudentServices Special Education

Days per school year:190

Hours per week: Between 24 35 hours per week dependent on caseload and enrollment

Start Date: As soon as possible

Interview Schedule: Interviews offered on a rolling basis

Assignment Location:Wheatley School

POSITION PURPOSE:

Toprovide direct instruction support and material development in students sensory and fine motor needs as well as functional skills development; to identify educationallyrelevant accommodations and adaptations and/or to develop and implement instructional or therapeutic interventions as indicated in collaboration with the supervising Occupational Therapist.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. Provide direct instruction following documented treatment plans or protocols developed by the supervising Occupational Therapist.

2. Perform administrative record keeping including documentation of services (may include Medicaid documentation) to be reviewed by the supervising Occupational Therapist.

3. Develop materials as requested by and in collaboration with the supervising Occupational Therapist.

4. Assist the Occupational Therapist in collecting and tallying data without interpretation.

5. Document student progress without interpretation of findings toward meeting established objectives as stated in the IEP/IFSP and report this information to the supervising Occupational Therapist.

6. Assist with clerical duties as directed by the Occupational Therapist.

7. Perform checks and maintenance of equipment.

8. Participate with Occupational therapists in research projects inservice training and public relations programs.

9. Conductscreenings without interpretation utilizing screening protocols specified by the supervising Occupational Therapist.

10. Schedule activities and prepare charts records graphs or other data displays.

11. Act as a secondlanguage interpreter during an assessment if applicable.

12. Maintain the confidentiality of information about students and their families.

13. Maintain a satisfactory job attendance record.

14. Use districtmandated and approved personal safety techniques to avoid exposure and injury to self students and other staff.

15. Attend required meetings.

16. Perform other related duties as assigned by the Coordinator/Supervisor or which are indicated to assure students physical and emotional wellbeing.

17. Adhere to policies of the district and procedures of the department and/or school site.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. Attend workshops staff development classes and other meetings.

2. Act as a resource person in the area of occupational therapy services.

3. Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisingOccupational Therapist or supervisor.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Emotional and physical stamina to perform duties required by the designated task except for temporary disability.
  • Valid drivers license and vehicle availability.
  • Ability to lift students according to acceptable risk factors guidelines (up to 60 pounds maximum without additional support). Exact lifting requirements will vary based on student weight tone and transfer positions/space.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

COTA credential meeting current OTLB guidelines:

1. Successful completion of the academic requirements of an educational program for occupational therapy assistants recognized by the Occupational Therapy Licensing Board.

2. Pass an examination approved by the board to determine the applicants fitness for practice as an occupational therapy assistant.

3. Have successfully completed at least two months of supervised fieldwork that complies with rules adopted by OTLB.

4. Maintain a current OTA license in good standing in Oregon.
